Barry was too young to know lots of stuff but he was old enough to know some things. This much Barry knew he was going to be eight years old on Saturday. Eight was waaaaay better than seven and he wanted a peanut cake.
"A peanut flavoured cake, that's very special." His mum had said.
"No. A peanut cake." Really! Parents knew nothing.
"Oh. Sorry. Do you want Charlie Brown or Snoopy?" Mum asked.
"Who?" Barry was confused.
"Charlie Brown, Lucy, Snoopy. You know. Peanuts." Mum elaborated.
"Muuuum!" Barry was at his wit's end.
"No? Then I'm lost," Mum admitted. Then she wondered. "Do you have a girlfriend that I don't know about?"
"Meeee! Ugh!" Barry squealed.
"Then what is a peanut cake!" Mum demanded.
Barry ran to his room and soon returned with a storybook. "This is Peanut. I want a cake in the shape of Peanut."
Mum took the book and read the title. "Peanut and the Prime Ministers. Where'd you get this?"
"At school. They gave it to us. Can I get a Peanut cake? Please, mum?" Barry begged.
"Weeeell." Mum wasn't sure.
"Pleeease, mum! It'll be so cool! All my friends will be jealous. I'll have the best cake ever at my birthday party." Barry begged.
So mum had spent the week before Barry's birthday trying to get the Peanut cake made. Mum's friend Patsy was the greatest cake maker ever and she came to help. Barry was so excited. On the day of the great peanut cake bake, Barry got to lick the bowl. It was scrumptious.
"You have to leave now," Patsy said.
"But why? Can't I get to see the cake? Pleeease?"
"It has to be a surprise, tomorrow," Mum said.
A sad Barry had to leave the kitchen. He had planned to peep but mum locked the door, he'd just have to wait.
Barry's birthday came and he got lots of presents. All his friends came to the party. Finally. FINALLY. The time for the cake.
Patsy came out with it on a large platter. Everyone went Oooo and Ahhh. Then Patsy tripped and the cake flew through the air...
