Episode 12: Julia Chang!

Hello everyone and welcome to the 12th episode of Ask or Dare: Cartoon & Anime All-Stars Friend Logs! Today's episode is all about Julia Chang!

Origins

Julia is a minor character who made her debut in Tekken 3, which first released on April 29, 1998. She hails from the United States of America and her fighting style consists of a combination of Xin Yi Liu He Quan and Baji Quan, and even some wrestling moves. In her Tekken 3 ending, she was voiced by Cara Jones. In Tekken 4, she was fully voiced by Kimberly Forsythe. From Tekken 5 to Street Fighter x Tekken, she was voiced by Annie Woods, who also did her battle voice, which still remains in the present. In her Tekken 6 ending, and cutscene voice in Tekken Tag Tournament 2 and Tekken 7, she was voiced by Stephanie Sheh, who also voiced Mackenzie, Usagi & Mikuru. And in the new Tekken: Bloodline anime, she's voiced by Jeanne Tirado, who voices Female Byleth from Fire Emblem: Three Houses.

General Background

Julia is the adopted daughter of Michelle Chang, a series veteran from the 1st 2 Tekken games, and has been replaced by her daughter since Tekken 3. The identity of her real parents still remain unknown. Like it matters anyways... Michelle was the one who taught Julia all her fighting moves. Julia's goal in the series is to one day reforest Arizona, her home state.

Personality

Julia is a kind woman with undying love for her family, friends, tribe and homeland. She's also not afraid to jump into danger to protect those she cares about. Due to Julia's love for her homeland, it led to her study archaeology, as well as researching about rejuvenation giving her a grasp on natural sciences and information technology.

Story in Tekken 3

As a baby, Julia was deserted and found by Michelle in the ruins of ancient Native American settlement. Turning 18, Julia heard stories of martial artists suddenly disappearing worldwide.  Michelle decides to leave for Japan to confront Tekken's resident Bald Bastard, Heihachi Mishima, to ask why he needed her pendant, as well as finding out the origin of Evil Shrek, I mean Ogre's power. But alas, she never returned. Thinking he was responsible for her mother's disappearance, Julia decides to fly to Japan and confront Heihachi. In her ending, after defeating Ogre, Julia finds her weakened mother, who luckily isn't dead. After being told of the secrets of Ogre's power, and that Heihachi planned to awaken him, Julia swears revenge against the bald bastard, but she ends up backing out when Michelle reminds her to fight "To protect Mother Earth, not destroy it". And so, they return home to Arizona.

Story in Tekken 4

Julia is now in college studying archaeology. One day, she finds out her homeland is being threatened by an encroaching desert, brought by a rapidly changing global ecosystem. She joins an advanced genetic research group led by Professor T that studied reforestation. However, the only reason he was able to afford this was thanks to G Corp, who took over and now watches over the research, and claim any info as their own. Julia was attached to her research, waiting for the day she could be able to complete her research and save Arizona. However, the research group's project was indefinitely put on hold due to the Mishima Zaibatsu attacking G Corp and stealing all their data, something Julia didn't know nor care for, but had to get it back regardless to save her homeland. And so, after searching for info about the Zaibatsu, Julia discovers the announcement of the 4th King of Iron Fist Tournament. In her ending, after winning the tournament and taking control of the Zaibatsu, she gains access from the stolen data, as well as G Corp's research and the Zaibatsu's cutting-edge technology, putting her reforestation goal in its homestretch. But, while working through, she discovers a HORRIFYING revelation. Dr. Abel's ambitions of fusing human and devil cells. Soon, he comes in and explains to Julia. Horrified of the thought of her research being used for evil, Julia deletes all the files, even if it means ruining her reforestation progress. After an assassination attempt from the mad doctor, Julia returns home, swearing that one day, she'll restore her homeland without the need of twisted power.
