School passed slowly. The seconds ticked by like years, the hours like millenia. The bell for lunch rang. I never ate lunch, so I went outside and sat in the grass in the sade of a tree on the grounds of the school. I pulled a notebook out of my bag and started writing.
I wrote poems. They were the only thing saving me from myself. I wrote about my feelings, my day, everything. Then, when I go home, I sit down at my keyboard and add music to it.
Today's poem is about a fresh love.
She sits on the ground, used and empty
There is no way she can make him see
A cold tear is let go
The world starts to slow
A hand is placed on her shoulder
Her feelings become prominent and bolder
"Thee is my true love," he whispers. "I realized it only today."
She turns my head to face this man. "How can I make you stay?"
"Tell me you need me."
"I need you, make me happy."
Love is a sweet candy for the heart
Young and new at the start
"Whatcha doing?" Thalia interrupts, putting her bag down next to me and sits.
"Writing."
"Whatcha writing?" She takes a cupcake out of her bag.
"Poetry." She's really getting on my nerves...
"Lemme see!" she insists.
I make her wait until she finishes her cupcake so she doesn't get chocolate crumbs on my poems. She takes about five minutes to read it. Over and over again, "Who is it?" she said.
"What makes you think it's about a guy? Love doesn't mean I'm crushing..." I said.
"Well, your last love poem, Make Me Smile, was about Sean. And you liked him. And the one before that was about Mark, and Dylan before that. You don't give me enough credit, Ky, I know you," she said.
"Okay, yes, there is a guy. But you're not finding out till the party tonight," I told her.
"Awww, why? You can trust me!" She put on a puppy dog face,
"Because he will be at the party. And because you'll laugh at me. I know for a fact that there's going to be achohol at your party, so I'll wait until you're buzzed to tell you..." I explained.
She mouthed something that looked like "bitch." We laughed.
I got up and walked into the school. The bell was going to ring any minute.
My phone vibrated. I looked. It said "1 New Text Message." I opened the phone. I didn't recognize the number.
skip class with me, it said.
I replied, only if i kno who u r.
im not tellin, Ms. Kylie Brenna.
Okay, this person was creeping me out. how do u kno my name?
i'll c u @ the party 2nite. look for the man in a hat and black and white by the fence.
I turned off my phone after this text. But I was curious. Who was that? I will look for him at the party.
Two hours later, the last bell rang. I walked home.
When I turned on my phone, I had eight new texts.
One from Thalia, can u bring ur guitar to the party? we need a guitarist 4 the band we hired. theirs is sick.
ok, I replied.
Seven from the mystery texter. The first one said, wanna play a game with me at the party?
The second one said, this game is my favorite...
The third: there's a bottle, a circle of people, and a closet.
Fourth: u r beautiful, kylie, i want u to kno that.
Fifth: who do u think i m? jason? nope. preston? no. sean? hell no! ;-)
Sixth: remember, hat, black and white.
This next one scared me.
Seventh: I will kill you.
I stopped in the middle of the sidewalk. I dropped everything except the phone.
"1 New Text Message" my phone beeped.
I see you, my sweet, my darling.
I picked up my bag and ran as fast as I could home. When I was safely in my room, I started to cry.
Another text. I'm outside your house. Spying on your family. You have a lovely little sister.
There was a scream, a slammed door, and crying.
I ran down stares. Marissa, my blue eyed, black haired little sister, was sitting on the kitchen floor.
"What happened?" I asked franticly.
"Th-that man! H-he grabbed me. He s-said he wants to kill people. U-us. Y-you and m-me!" she sobbed.
I hugged her tight and cried too.
My phone beeped again. If I can't kill you, I will kill Marissa. You die, she's safe.
Fine. I'll die for her. Kill me. Not while I'm with her, I replied. I was scared out of my mind.
"Mar, I need to go do something. Please don't leave the house," I told her.
She nodded through her tears.
I ran up to my room. My phone rang this time. I was scared to answer.
"H-hello?" I said.
"Kylie, you will die in seven days, or you sister will pay the consequences." The line went dead.
New tears seeped from my eyes.
The party was in an hour. I needed to get ready.
I did so in a half hour and drove there early. I made sure all signs of tears were gone.
When I got there, Thalia greeted me warmly.
