Xie Lian says with a face full of smiles, he knows that his cooking is not for the weak, this has not only been proved by Mu Qing and Feng Xin but also their competitive worshippers 800 years ago when Xie Lian was cooking for the Temple builders. And when the quarrelling worshippers on the other hand got a whiff of his cooking, they all forgot about their argument and fled on impulse, Xie Lian was fired by the boss after that and was not paid too.
And even in the present, he was reminded by Wind Master Shi Qingxuan; who just looked at it and deemed it inedible, The Earth Master who immediately made a face and passed out right after eating it and The Martial god Quan Yizhen whom Xie Lian was paired up with to find the Brocade Immortal just made a face too then fainted and later fell ill.
Hua Cheng is the only exception though, no matter how ghastly, how horrible, how burnt, how horrifying Xie Lian's cooking may be, he eats it in a calm and collected matter as if he's tasting a delicacy and even gives encouraging reviews like 'not bad, just add more water next time' or 'apart from salt, tastes great gege'. So basically, Hua Cheng is the only one who can eat Xie Lian's cooking without fail or hesitation, and Xie Lian adores him for that.........he can't help but love his husband 10× more than he already does
"NO FUCKING WAY!!!! I DON'T WANT MY SOUL TO FULLY DISSIPATE BECAUSE OF YOUR POISONOUSLY TERRIBLE AS FUCK SO-CALLED 'COOKING' "
He immediately regrets his outburst because the moment he said that Hua Cheng subtly gave him a glare so cold and deadly that he almost thought that it alone was enough to kill him
"UUH.....NO, MY KIND AND THOUGHTFUL COUSIN, YOU TRULY ARE A COMPASSIONATE GEM, I JUST MEANT THAT I'M NOT HUNGRY............ FORGIVE THAT LITTLE RUDE REMARK, WILL YOU?"
Xie Lian was too stunned to speak, he didn't notice Hua Cheng's glare so he's clueless as to why Qi Rong's suddenly apologizing.
He subconsciously turns his head to Hua Cheng, his questioning face revealing what he wants to ask, Hua Cheng just shrugs in response. No, Qi Rong is not the apologetic type no matter which angle you may look at it. Hua Cheng must've done something that Xie Lian didn't notice, but since he didn't give off any murderous aura............ he's gonna let it slide.
Xie Lian takes a look at Guzi and gets the answer he wants, the child is completely petrified and stealing anxious glances at Hua Cheng...... probably Fearing that Hua Cheng would put an end to his father
Hua Cheng, seeing the situation, languidly says
"Relax trash, don't overdo it, I won't kill you even if I want to, you are gege's only family after all and I wouldn't want to get rid of you without his permission".
Then he says the next part rather threateningly
"However, just because i won't kill you, doesn't mean i can't hurt you, so watch that tongue of yours"
And with that he heads to the bedroom in lazy strides.
Xie Lian can't help but smile, Hua Cheng is so protective of him even though he knows that he can deal with it himself, he still insists on shaking people's knees despite of himself
"Don't worry Guzi, you know how he is, he already doesn't like your Dad and it gets worse when your Dad talks crap about me, I'm used to it and pay it no mind but.............I wouldn't say the same for him"
"It's ok, I would totally understand if Mr Hua beats my dad to a pulp, his mouth is nothing but foul after all. And I have a question"
"Let me hear it"
"Since my dad calls you his cousin, does that mean you're.......my.......uncle?"
Xie Lian almost laughed out loud, Guzi is not related to him in any way but he still strongly believes that Qi Rong is his dad and that his physical body is what is dead of course and his soul is what remains; naive child
Xie Lian decides to play along with him, resisting the urge to bluntly tell the kid 'this piece of shit ain't your dad, it's just a barbaric ghost that caused your real dad's body to be burnt to a crisp because of it's foolishness',
But then again, if Xie Lian thinks about it, Guzi did say that he didn't care whether or not he's his dad, he just cared because ever since Qi Rong possessed his dad he's taken good care of him and didn't devour him, so it's a win for him.....he guessed.
In the end, he decided to play along with him,
"No, I'm not your uncle. I'm your 'cousin once removed' "
"Once removed? What does that mean?"
Enough though the cousin once removed means he should be atleast a generation from Guzi, but Xie Lian is immortal after all so he's not sure if that applies since he's tons of generations older
"It just means I'm one generation away from you"
Qi Rong, who's presence seems to be like that of
Yin Yu spoke up
"OH STOP LYING TO MY SON XIE LIAN, HE'LL UNDERSTAND WHEN HE'S OLDER"
He says folding his arms around his Chest
"Anyway, since you guys will 'die' from my cooking, let me tell Sang Lang to make something"
He says about to head towards their bedroom
"No no no no no, don't bother Crimson Rain Sought Flower, we're fine"
"You might be fine, but think about Guzi, you guys must've travelled a long way to get here, San Lang's cooking is amazing!! He won't say no"
"FUCK IT!! XIE LIAN!! DON'T YOU UNDERSTAND!?!?! IF HUA CHENG IS NEVER WILLING TO TALK OR CO-OPERATE WITH SOMEONE OTHER THAN YOU!! IN A POLITE WAY!!!, DO YOU THINK HE WOULD BE WILLING TO WASTE HIS SKILLS!! CRAFTED SPECIFICALLY FOR YOU! ON OTHERS LIKE US!?!?!?!"
