Walking up to our pack house was the scariest thing today.
I know I'm in trouble. My father is a very strict man. I should have kept track of my time but primary school is boring and the books Phil gives me aren't. As soon as I open the door the atmosphere feels cold. Yes we live in a snowy waste land but this cold is different. I'm dreading what is to come.
"You mutt!" I hear before my father storms out of his office. "You are a disgrace! How hard is it to be in a primary level class!? Are you so stupid you can't understand it or are you truly an idiot who can't even read a clock!?"
It's actually very hard to be in a primary class I don't get how some kids struggle in it. I want to sleep through the whole thing and you know what? I'd still get an A!... but I can't say that to him.
"I'm sorry sir. I lost track of time. It won't happen again." I respond.
"You're right you won't. Having a woman who can't be where she's meant to be on time is a waste. My daughter won't be that way. I will train you well so you are a fit she wolf. Your mate will thank me." My father growls.
"Father." A calm voice echoes through the hall.
"Mind your place boy." He responds.
"We had a deal Alpha. She is mine to raise." Bane tells him.
"I'm letting her play hockey. She still needs to learn responsibility." Father says.
"And I will be the one to teach her. The deal we made makes her my responsibility." Bane makes his way between our father and me.
"Than you take her punishment if you claim responsibility." Father growls.
"Yes sir." Bane nods.
"Come along pup, watch your brother suffer for your mistakes." Father tells me.
"No." Bane argues.
"I'm still the Alpha here boy." Father growls causing Bane to lower his head.
"In now." He orders once we get to the room.
"How long?" Bane asks and Father pushes him in.
"That is up to Libby." He answers as he slame the door shut locking my brother in. "Now he may have taken your punishment but you still need to learn. Every hour on the hour I want you to push this button." Father tells me handing me a stop watch. "It is linked to my laptop so I will know when you do. If you can keep this appointment for 48 hours I'll let him out. If you miss one you restart. Do you understand?"
"Yes Alpha." I mumble looking at the stopwatch. He simply walks away.
I slide down the door as tears fall down my face.
My father never beats us... but it might be better if he did. The room Bane is in is so dark you can't see your hand in front of your face. It is sealed so no scent or sound can get in. The only sense you have is touch. You can feel but all you can feel is cold. Not so bad to kill you. Just cold enough to be uncomfortable. Time passes so slowly in there. It's torture.
I look at the watch 20 minutes... 21.... 22.... 23.... 24... 25. I refuse to leave this spot. I can't risk missing a single check in. I've read about people going crazy due to sensory deprivation... and solitary confinement is a punishment for a reason. I can't risk Bane having to stay in any longer than he has to. 54... 55... 56... 57... 58... 59... 60 Click! It's gonna be a long couple days.
I pull out my phone and set a timer for 58 minutes. I can't miss one. I can't miss one.
By 11 pm I am beat. I keep resetting the timer so I won't mess up but I'm nodding off and I'm afraid to go to sleep. Bane is probably having trouble sleeping because that room is too small for him to stretch out and he's cold. I can stay up for him!
Beep beep beep
Crap! Click.
I immediately hit the stop watch and look at the lap counter. 38 I haven't missed one. I haven't let this door. Mamma tried to get me to eat but Bane can't so neither should I.
"Eat pup." I hear a mind link.
"Bane! Don't use the link Father will find out!" I scold him. Wait how does he know I'm not eating?
"Ma linked me and said you weren't eating. She's distracting Father. Don't worry... now eat." He tells me.
"I... I'm sorry bubby." I mumble through the link.
"Don't worry about me. Go about your day. He'll let me out soon. It's been what? 3 days? He has to let me out soon." I don't have it in me to tell him it hasn't even been two. At least I know he is okay. Only 12 more hours.
"I love you Bane."
"Love you too midget. Now go eat."
"Okay." We cut the link and I finally stand. I go to the kitchen and make a quick sandwich before returning to my post.

"Get up pup... you've done well. Your mother had convinced me to end his punishment early. What have you learned?" Father says standing in front of me.
"Don't be late." I answer and he nods.
"You've proven you know how to keep track of time. Don't forget it."
"Yes Alpha." I bow my head and he opens the door. As soon as it opens father walks away.
Bane flenches at the light as he adjusts to the light.
"Bubby!" I tackle him in a hug and he groans.
"Hey midget." He says holding me close as he stretches his legs a bit.
"Are you okay?" I ask.
"I'm fine Libby." He says but he looks awful. "But you look like you haven't slept in days." He gives me a look so I just hug him tight.
"I was worried about you." No way am I telling him that I had to stay up or he wouldn't have gotten out.
Bane sighs before tucking my head under his chin. "Sleep pup." He says as he stands up flinching as his muscles move after so long being still.
"I can walk Bane. You shouldn't..."
"Sleep." He cuts me off hugging me close to him. I can't help but let my exhaustion take over now that I know he is okay.
"Night bubby."
