As a few days passed, Chloe nearly forgot about her strange conversation with the mysterious Adam. He'd called for Beck, which meant- going by experience- he must be Beck's boyfriend of the week. She felt really guilty about talking to him the other day.
Walking through the fabric store she worked in after her shift was over, Chloe browsed through a row of taffeta looking for something pretty to make a dress she’d designed that morning. Before she knew it, her eyes went black as someone put their hands over her eyes.
"Guess who," Adam whispered softly in Chloe’s ear. The tone of his voice made her shiver; his voice was so intimate that she felt like he'd run a hand over her bare skin. He stepped so close to her that she could feel the warmth of his skin through both of their shirts.
"Adam," she asked, unsure that she properly recognized his voice. He laughed gently.
“Of course.”
“You scared me!” He breathed the scent coming off her skin deeply.
How can someone smell so sweet, so spicy, so exotic... all at the same time?! He chuckled in her ear again.
“Sorry about that.”
"How did you know who I was?" He laughed quietly again, his breath ruffling her hair against her neck, causing her unique scent to fill the air around him for a second time. He breathed in again.
She smells so sensual, he thought to himself.
"You're still wearing your name tag," he told her, sounding breathless and hoping to God she didn't hear it…
She’s so beautiful. Chloe moved to the side, trying to turn around, but he kept his hands clamped over her eyes. She sighed.
“Did you need some taffeta, too,” she asked sarcastically, making him laugh. He found himself laughing a lot…
“No, I came to see you,” he told her.
"Do I get to see you? Can you take your hands off my eyes, please?" That simple question sent him into a near panic. Hoping to buy himself some time, he walked backwards, his hands still over her eyes- bringing her with him- to the end of the row without answering her and bent even closer, smelling her scent once more before he left.
"See you around sometime; I’ll call you," he whispered deeply, feeling her shiver. He smiled, enjoying her reaction. He slowly took his hands away from her eyes and walked away as fast as he could.
Chloe turned around to see if he was as sexy as his voice implied, but he was gone. He'd snuck up behind her, whispered way too tenderly in her ear, then taken off without even letting her catch a glimpse of him! She sighed, grabbed a light silvery gray taffeta off the shelf, and walked to the counter, slightly disappointed.
Why had he even come over here if he was going to shroud himself in mystery?! The more she thought about it, the more irritated she became.
She was still frustrated by it a few hours later as she cut taffeta into the shapes and sizes she needed to make her dress. Ear buds in with music blaring, head bobbing and singing loudly, she started piecing the dress together on the dress form in the corner of her room when she noticed Beck in the doorway, clearly talking to her. She pulled out an ear bud.
"What," Chloe asked her to repeat what she was saying sweetly.
"I've been trying to get your attention for, like, a minute and a half! God, phone," she snapped, obviously more than a little annoyed; which was not that unusual.
"Who is it," she asked, confused. No one called her; she didn't give out her number... Beck just shoved the phone into Chloe’s hand, turned on her heel with her hair flying out behind her, and left the room closing the door louder than was strictly necessary. Chloe raised her eyebrows as she put the receiver to her ear.
