Adam woke up and rolled over, feeling a pressing pain in his back. He sat up and realized his phone was still lying on the bed next to him. Looking at it, he saw that he was still connected. He looked at the screen; the call had been connected for seven hours.
Thank God I'd plugged my phone in last night. He picked it up and put it to his ear, hearing sweet singing.
"Chloe?" She giggled softly in his ear.
Mmmm... every time I hear her laugh, my breath gets caught in my lungs. She had the sweetest, most gentle voice he'd ever heard. When she laughed, it reminded him of feathers caressing his skin.
"Good morning, sleepy head." They had spent the whole night on the phone together. Despite the fact that they weren't anywhere near each other, there was something about it that felt really intimate to Adam. He'd never been able to talk to any girl like he could talk to Chloe.
Especially not since… He stopped himself; he didn’t want to think about it.
"Good morning; you didn't hang up," he said, a goofy smile spreading across his face. He could almost hear a smile on her face, too.
"I thought it was so cute that you were still there that I waited." Another lazy smile spread across his face.
"You were singing to me," he said gladly, feeling completely contented to be here right now. Chloe felt a blush creep into her cheeks. His voice was warm and sleepy and it reminded her of a blanket, wrapping warmly around her as she sank back into her sheets, amazed by how sexy he sounded right then.
"Yeah, I was." Adam yawned and groaned as he stretched.
"I liked it. Can I wake up like that every day," she heard him say behind another yawn and she giggled. He was so easy to talk to. That's when she remembered she shouldn't be talking to him at all and it didn't take long for the giggles to die away.
Aww, dammit. I mean crap. She sighed to herself and sat up.
"I have to go," she said, her voice suddenly flat. She mentally kicked herself.
Seriously, one hot voice and a few polite words and I forget he's not available and spend the whole night on the phone with him?!
"Oh, uhh, okay... Is everything okay?" Chloe felt awful and hoped to God that Beck never found out.
"I guess no, not really, but I'll get over it. I have to go," she said again and hung up. Sighing heavily, she flopped backwards on the bed. Until Beck moved on, Chloe had to stay away from Adam.
But do I really want to be Beck's follow up? No, she didn’t- not even just a little bit. Beck slammed open the bedroom door and Chloe peeked at her from under her arm.
"You were really tying up the phone all night long?! What if someone was trying to call me?!" Chloe dropped her arm to her side and narrowed her eyes at her.
Her boyfriend was on the phone with me and she's concerned about other people wanting to talk to her?
"We have call waiting, Beck. Seriously."
Adam stared at the phone after Chloe hung up and tried to figure out what that was all about. Did she panic because they were on the phone all night? He dialed again without a second thought.
"Hello?" He groaned inwardly.
"Beck," he said, having temporarily forgotten that Beck was Chloe's roommate.
"Adam," she tried to purr seductively, but Adam hated the sound of it. "Is there something I can do for you?"
"I, umm, is Chloe home?" The fake oozing sweetness dropped from her voice.
