You could feel him. His eyes watching your every move; every step you made. You knew that he knew you were nervous but you were also confused. You felt like prey being watched by a much larger predator.
"[ your name ]?" Emily asks concern swirling in her warm eyes. "You okay?" You only nodded in response. She didn't seem to believe you, but she didn't push you. You took another sip of the wine provided for you. it was bittersweet. You didn't really like the taste of it, but you needed to keep your mind off of Reid so you took slightly larger sips.
"Slow down there tiger. It's not going to run from you." Morgan lets out a deep chuckle, and Penelope stares at you with amusement. You were tempted to stick your tongue out at him but deemed that too childish, so you just resorted to an eye roll.
"So," you said in an attempt to change the topic. "What did you talk to Chase about? " You ask looking down at the wine glass as you swirled it watching its contents spin. You could feel a slight buzz from the wine, but you didn't feel quite content.
"Just about his pick up lines," Morgan says. "I haven't heard a pickup line as bad as his in I don't even know how long."
"Yeah well you're too smooth to deliver a bad pick up line, so I'm not surprised." Penelope snorted in what you took as agreement, and Morgan just rolled his eyes.
"So you and Chase really aren't together?" Penelope asked. "I really thought you two hit it off?" You just shook your head but stopped immediately, the action making you dizzy. Regardless you took another sip of your wine and sighed.
"Yeah he's cute don't get me wrong," you say. "But like I said. He's just getting out of a divorce and I'm going through stuff. We agreed we both weren't ready for a relationship."
"But if things we actually going good for the both of you, would you?" Morgan asked curiously. "Date him I mean. You two seem really close."
"Maybe?" You reply, shrugging. "I'm not sure. Yes, he's attractive but I just don't see him like that. But who knows, if circumstances were different I might give him a chance." A sigh left your lips and your eyes unwillingly went to Spencer. His eyes had finally left your frame instead chatting with Hotch. You frowned seeing their facial expressions. They seemed to be talking about something important because they both looked serious.
Then his eyes met yours. You stared into them for what seemed like hours but in reality, it was just a few seconds. You turned away taking yet another sip of the disgusting wine in your hand.
"I better go," Emily announces suddenly. "It's getting late and I want to get home before traffic really hits." She explains giving you and Penelope a hug, and a wave to everyone else in the room. "Thank you for the invite. I had a great time."
