17 years old:
From the time she was born, D/N and Willy were stuck together like glue.
They did everything together. They made candy together, read together, and we're just overall a great pair. They're quirky personalities clashed, but that was a good thing. However, something about the girl's sometimes clingy nature worried the chocolatier greatly.
It was almost as if, once the candy genius left his daughter's Side, panic would fill the young girl until he returned. For a while, Willy couldn't put his finger on why his child would be so distraught during those times of separation. However, an incident that happened when the young girl was just two years old may have been to blame.
One day, when Little D/N and her father were walking around the factory, the young child became curious and slipped away from Willy.
For a little while, it seemed that this did not frighten the child. However, as she ventured further into unfamiliar territory, the little girl panicked. Sobs racked her body as she ran this way and that, trying to locate her protector.
Finally, by some miracle, the two found each other.
The candy maker scooped the distraught child into his loving arms, promising that he would never leave her side again.
Years went by, and it became very clear to Willy that his daughter was suffering from separation anxiety.
Each time he left the room, even for only a second, the little candy girl would instantly start panicking. Now that she was 17, this worried The candy man greatly! He knew then what he had to do.
He was going to help his daughter through this traumatic experience no matter what it took!
The candy genius figured today was the day. His schedule was free, so why not?
The day started out like any other.
Willie opened his sleepy eyes, and looked down at his daughter with a loving expression on his face.
Ever since the separation incident, the young girl often found herself going to her father's room for comfort after a nightmare, or just to be closer to him.
There was no doubt that as D/N got older, the candymaker thought this to be incredibly strange behavior. Although it broke his heart, he knew he had to break his child of this habit. After all, it was for her own good.
Rubbing the girls back, the candy maker spoke softly as to not frighten her.
"good morning Starshine! It's time to wake up."
Groaning, the candy girl buried her face into her father's chest.
"Mmmm, Five more minutes!"
Willy chuckled.
"Come on Starshine, I'v got something I want to show you. Don't you want to know what it is?"
With those exciting words, D/N sprung up. However, her mood soon changed as she heard Willy speak once more.
"Alright then Coco bean, I'll be right back."
As Willie was about to stand, D/N flung herself into his arms, knocking him to the floor.
Shaking, the teen begged and pleaded for her father not to go.
"No! No no no!!!!! Don't leave me. Please don't leave me. Why are you doing this? You promised! You promised you would never leave me! Why daddy?
With his daughter's outburst, what the Candy man was doing made him feel terrible! However, he knew that this would help his Coco bean in the long run.
As carefully as he could, willy placed a gloved hand onto the teen's shoulder and spoke softly.
"Oh no Starshine, I'm not leaving you. I'll only be gone for a second."
Although Willie hoped that his words would calm the girl, he was dismade to find that they had the opposite effect. For what happened next, terrified him to no end.
Before he realized what was happening, D/N threw herself onto the floor, and began kicking and screaming. Thrashing around so violently that Willie was worried that she would be injured.
The child's next words absolutely shattered the candy man's heart into pieces!
"I hate you! I hate you!!!!!!! Aahhhhhhhh!!!! You said that you wouldn't leave me, but you lied. Do you not love me anymore?"
As the screaming and flailing continued, the chocolatier dropped down to the floor, and picked his child up as she pounded her fists against his chest.
Attempting to get through to the child, The candy genius spoke once more.
"Starshine, stop! Stop this right now! What has gotten into you sweetheart? I know you're worried that I would leave you, but Darling, you're scaring me so much! Please sweetheart. You know that if I leave you, it doesn't mean that I don't love you anymore. Sometimes it's nice to have time apart from each other. And besides, you don't want me to be around you all the time if you ever decide to date someone, do you?"
The teen's sobs began to slow down as she looked up at her father.
The look she gave was absolute disgust!
"Eww Dad! Why would I date? That's so weird!"
Willy chuckled.
"Never say never darling. You never know! You may find that special someone someday, but that's not the point. The point is that I love you very much, but I want you to start being your own person and maybe being around other people too. Just because I leave for a couple seconds or hours, it doesn't mean I don't love you. You mean everything to me my little cupcake! I'll tell you what. Will start off small. I'll leave the room for a couple of seconds, and day by day, we'll increase the time that I leave. How does that sound Starshine?"
D/N smiled up at her father.
" I would like that very much!"
From that day forward, Willy kept his promise. He left the girl for a few seconds one day just as he said, and day by day the time increased, getting to the point where the candy girl didn't care how long he was gone for.
In fact, D/N began conversing with the Oompa Loompa's, something that she had never done until now. It proved to be a wonderful experience, as not only did she get out of her shell, but she also made some amazing friends!
It was safe to say that all was right in the world, and it was all thanks to the love and support that Willy Wonka gave his daughter.
