chae ai shouldn't have gotten out of bed today.

she knew she should have just rotted away for the day when she woke up with a pit in her stomach. why did she never trust her gut instincts? (you'd think she would have learned after everything that happened already)

either way, she's starting to really regret it.

"so," choi joon states, elbows on the table as one arm supports his cheek. his empty gaze is latched to the green, snoopy tote bag laying in between them that's just brimming with items. "what is that?"

there's no life in those eyes; chae ai is sure of it.

"call it my get-well, recovery gift."

"we both died," the younger boy deadpans, no further interest having been spiked.

chae ai heaves a sigh. "god, you're such a mood killer," she complains, shoving the sack towards him. "just look at what's inside."

the raven shoots her a dry reaction but makes no further comment, taking the present and rummaging through the opening.

good. she thinks, watching him dig and pull like a raccoon. she was preparing to give him an actual, purposeful get-well gift from her if he had kept up the nosy questions.

basic items are the first things to come out, regular notebooks and black pens quickly organized on choi joon's side of the table. "school supplies?" he mutters, attacking her with a pondering eyebrow quirk from beneath his dark bangs.

"you told me you returned to school. i figured you wouldn't want to continue with using a deceased's belonging."

choi joon seems to find the answer acceptable as he goes back to hunting inside the bag. a few more non-eye catching items are thrown out before pale hands finally find the more decorative supplies at the bottom.

chae ai grins. her hands might be quivering nervously beneath the table more so than not, but she's been dying in anticipation to see his reaction. is it too early to be making dead jokes?

the opening is a mini kuroppi notebook, derpy green frogs littering the cover in various sleeping poses. she sees his eyebrow twitch as she delivers a cheshire smile. "doesn't he remind you of yourself?"

he duplicates her smile. "frankly, isn't this just you when you got that concussion from your basketball play-offs? i remember you missing the finals because you were sleeping." her mood is instantly killed.

"just grab the next item," she huffs.

thankfully, he abides. what comes next are totoro themed sticky notes; the animated bunny featuring different scenes for each different sticky note. choi joon seems to have no comment on that as he flips through the square stack.

the third and last item pulled from the bag's depth is a baby blue pen with a cinnamoroll topper, the miniature sanrio character adorned with a baby blue bow for a collar.

chae ai can just see the question marks floating around his head as he stares at the ominous writing utensil with a subtle bewilderment. "you.. you didn't forget i'm not actually eleven, did you?"

she cracks.

the blonde bursts into a fit as laughter while the raven looks and questions her sanity.

"you've definitely lost it," choi joon concludes as she bangs her hand on the table.

"please," chae ai gasps, wiping away her joyous tears. "you should have seen the look on your face." there's a deliberate silence before he squints.
