(Sean's POV)
"You told her?!" I growled as I looked down at Felis, not a playful growl either.
"H-hey, man, she's my wife. I tell her everything," he said, taking a step back.
"I can't believe I ever trusted you!" Ivann shouted as he stood up and ran for the door.
I bolted after him, grabbing his arm before he could open the door and run out of the apartment. He jerked away from me as he turned and looked up at me. Tears filled his betrayed eyes and spilled down his cheeks.
"It's not like that," I said as I reached up to wipe away his tears. He stepped back before I could touch him, backing into the door. "It was the night you broke up with me. I was really hurt. I started drinking, trying to figure out why, and I needed someone to talk to and Felis was there," I told him as stinging tears filled my eyes. "I swear, I didn't tell him to betray your trust or to hurt you," I said, my voice cracking with emotion as tears streamed down my face.
"It's true," Felis said, stepping up beside me, placing his hand on my back. "I've never seen him that hurt before," he told Ivann, as he rubbed my shoulder. "He really needed someone to talk to about it."
"What you told him about your past, that is a lot for anyone to hold on to," Kate said, stepping up to my other side. "It's easier to handle when the weight of it isn't on your shoulders, alone," she told him. "I know we just met and all, but we're here for you, Ivann. You don't have to carry the weight of it by yourself anymore," she said as she reached out to him.
He fell into her arms, crying on her shoulder.
"Shhh-Shhh," she soothed, stroking the fur on the back of his head. "It's okay, let it out," she told him as she held him in her arms.
Felis pulled me into his arms, not saying a word, just holding onto me. Whether or not, if I want him to hold me, I really needed someone to hold me, and I think he knew that. He rubbed my back as I sobbed over his shoulder.
"Are you good?" he asked as I pulled away.
I sniffled. "Yeah."
I turned back to Ivann. Kate stepped out of the way, and he looked at me with puffy eyes. We both took a step forward, wrapping our arms around each other.
"I'm sorry," I told him as I squeezed him.
"No," he said, shaking his head against my chest. "I'm sorry. I shouldn't have put all that on you," he told me as he looked up at me.
"I want to help you overcome it, so I don't mind it," I said as I wiped his tears from his fur. "I don't know when that day will come, but I know that it will come. So, until then, I'll be here to help you," I told him as I caressed his cheek.
"We will all be here to help you," Felis and Kate said, simultaneously.
"Thank you," he told the both of them with a grateful smile. He reached up, cradling my face in his palms and said, "thank you," as he pulled me down to his lips.
A chaste kiss from him was all I needed to know that everything was going to be okay, that we were going to be okay. We slipped out of each other's arms as we turned to face Felis and Kate, who were holding hands and leaning against one another as they watched us.
"All right, now that we're all good, let's get this dinner back on track," Kate said, with a light laugh, as she wiped her own tears away.
"Yes, that sounds good," Ivann agreed with her.
"I'll help Felis bring the food to the table," I said, giving Ivann a peck on the cheek before walking with Felis to the kitchen.
Ivann and Kate sat at the table while we brought the food over and then took our places beside them.
"This looks amazing, Felis," Ivann complimented as he looked at the spread of food.
"It's all because of Sean's help - he's a real chef," Felis said, with a grin.
"That's yet to be decided."
"Don't be so modest," Kate said. "You know it's true and so do we."
"We'll find out this Sunday if it's true or not."
"What?" Ivann asked as he looked at me, puzzled.
"I was going to wait until later to tell you, but I guess now is as good of a time as any to tell you," I said to him, smiling from ear to ear. "Thanks to Felis, I've got an interview at a restaurant."
"What? That's great!" he exclaimed, his eyes lighting up.
"It's just a small restaurant, nothing to get that excited over."
"Hey, that's my family's restaurant you are talking about," Felis piped up. "But, yeah, it is small," he admitted with a smile.
"It doesn't matter how big the place is, you'll get to do what you love to do," he said, taking my hand in his.
"That's if I get the job."
"The job is yours," Felis stated. "The interview is just for show," he said with a knowing smile.
Sure we hit a snag, but all in all, the night didn't turn out that bad. Dinner went well, Felis and Kate hit it off with Ivann and he seemed to warm up to them quicker than I had thought he would.
"Are you ready to go?" I asked, a little while after we finished eating and the table was cleared.
"Leaving already?" Kate asked, before he could answer. "But the night's still young," she protested with a pout.
"Yeah," he answered. "He's still got to drive me home."
"Oh all right," she sighed. "Promise, you'll come back again?"
"I promise," he told her with a smile.
She hugged us both and Felis shook Ivann's hand once more before we were on our way.
"I had a good time tonight," he said as we got into my car. "Your friends are really nice."
"They're your friends too, now," I told him as I started the car.
