The next day Black Canary was doing some training exercises with the team. "Ok, for starters we are going to work on some simple acrobatic skills." Robin put his hand up and she rolled her eyes "No Robin, you don't have to train." He grinned while the others glared at him.

"How come he gets to sit out?" Conner grumbled.

Robin smirked and did a front handspring. "I've kinda got it covered in the 'acrobatics' department."

Black Canary sighed "Robin, would you mind helping me with some of the demonstrations?"

He grinned "Not at all!" he ran over to the center of the training circle.

The first task was to teach the team how to do a simple handstand. Megan and Artemis were pretty good at it, but Wally, Conner, and Kaldur were struggling. There was one point when the three of them toppled to the floor all at once. Robin thought it was hilarious and was about to laugh before he remembered what his friends had said. He quickly covered his mouth with his hand and watched them pick themselves up.

Once they got the handstands, they moved on to cartwheels. This went a bit better than the handstands, but not by much. Robin was next to Black Canary as they watched them trip and bump into each other. Artemis and Megan both started to do a cartwheel and they accidentally knocked each other to the ground.

Black Canary started to chuckle. Robin was about to laugh as well when he quickly turned it into a cough at the last minute. She looked down at him concerned but he continued to watch his teammates sadly. What was wrong with him?

The team was starting their final exercise, they were going to have a race walking on their hands. Once Black Canary showed them how to start, they went to the starting line. Things started alright, but when Wally tried to use his super-speed to win, things went downhill fast.

Wally tumbled to the ground and the entire team tripped on top of him. Robin couldn't help himself, he busted out laughing. Even Black Canary was chuckling.

The team stood up and glared at him. Robin immediately stopped. "Dude, we told you not to do that!" Wally complained.

"It's so creepy!" Artemis agreed.

Robin looked down at the ground "I... I'm sorry..." he quickly ran out of the room.

Black Canary glared back at the team "What was that about?! You hurt Robin's feelings!"

Wally rolled his eyes "it was his fault. We told him not to do it."

"Do what?" she was starting to get angrier.

"We asked Robin not to laugh like that anymore." Megan answered, "It is super creepy."

Black Canary was seething "You asked Robin not to laugh?"

"He can laugh normal." Conner answered "Just, when he does that cackle thing it makes him sound evil. We already deal with enough crazies around here."

"It was my suggestion." Aqualad added, "I saw it upset the team, so I told him to stop."

Black Canary pointed at the door Robin had run out "Well you just upset Robin, and he's a part of this team too!" they all looked down at the ground in shame. "Robin has loved to laugh ever since the day I met him. He is an extremely happy kid. And by forcing him not to laugh, you are taking something away that is very dear to him." She stomped out of the room leaving the team to wonder what she was talking about.

~time skip~

Black Canary walked down the hall until she came to the right door. She knocked "Robin? Can I come in?" no answer. "Dick, it's me. The team told me what they said..." a few seconds later the door clicked open. Dick was standing in front of her without his mask on. Tears were dripping down his cheeks.

"Hey, come here..." she walked in and closed the door. She then wrapped Dick in a huge hug.

After a couple of minutes, he stopped crying and they sat down on his bed. "I-is the team ok?"

She looked at him confused "What do you mean?"

He sniffled "I scared them... just like I scare everyone else..."

"You don't scare everyone, Dick." She wrapped an arm around his shoulder. "The team just doesn't understand what's going on. They shouldn't have said those things to you."

Robin shook his head "No, they should have. They asked me not to laugh anymore because they didn't like it. I shouldn't have laughed."

"Dick, they don't know that you can't laugh any other way." She reasoned. "If they did then they never would have asked you to do that."

"I shouldn't have laughed..." he said again. "From now on I won't laugh..."

"Don't you dare?" She said sternly. "I love your laugh." He looked at her skeptically. "Dick, I love to see you happy, and so does Bruce. Heck, the whole League loves it when you laugh!"

"yeah... but you knew me before I changed..." he muttered.

She sighed "Dick, do you remember the first time you pledged not to laugh? It was right after the 'accident'. You were so afraid that the Leaguers would stop hanging out with you because of it. When Bruce told us this we all got super upset. Because we wanted you to be happy. The next day Bruce brought you to the Watchtower. All-day Hal, Barry, Ollie, and Clark made a point of being extra silly just to get you to laugh. And we were all so happy when you finally did."

Dick smiled a bit "Yeah... I remember... Ollie ended up shooting Barry because he was so desperate to make me happy. You wouldn't stop slapping him after that..."

She grinned "Oliver can be a real idiot sometimes..." they both started laughing and she put a hand on his shoulder "Promise me you'll continue laughing?" he nodded and they both smiled.
