                                                                     Chapter 1 - New Beginnings

It wasn't entirely the concepts that made her believe in the theories he proposed.  No, it was the  way his eyes lit up every time spoke of them.  There was a certain glistening sparkle in his usually dull, gray eyes, a sparkle Katherine only witnessed at this time of day.  The way he became more loquacious.  He spoke in a way that implied that he believed which made you believe.  Mr. Lavoy's bland yet eloquent speech echoed through classroom as he spoke of dreams.  Physics, although not completely useful was also not completely useless.  Katherine enjoyed the idea of all of it, sure but today her brain refused to cooperate.  Instead a steady, continuous stream of thoughts flooded her mind.

Today's lesson was on the fascinating concept of the bubble theory, which he soon transitioned into the multiverse theory.  Don't get me wrong, Kath loved her physics class, in fact it was her favorite of all classes, but today her mind was in the clouds.  Prior to the class, she had received a call from her aunt Alice, who also lived in Seattle, saying that there was room to stay over at her house.  Alice's husband had passed away a year ago along with her parents in the car accident.  Her Uncle, Fernando, was a very wealthy man who had characteristics much like Alice. Fernando was a tall funny, man. Shy at first but as relationships increased less reserved.  The man was born with two left feet. He had worked on oil rigs as a younger lad and slowly worked his way from job to job until it was enough to provide for his family in opulence.

Aunt Alice had spent the year abroad visiting "an old friend" as she called whoever this anonymous being.  No one in her family even seemed to recall her whereabouts. Alice completely disappeared and it wasn't questioned by anybody.

The estate, a large castle-like property, would no doubt be in a rough condition considering that it hadn't been maintained.  She lived about a half an hours drive from the university, which was a small burden, but it beat dorm room prices as well as having to hear her annoying roommate sneak in at late hours of the night completely wasted and asking about random crap.  She was over the completely mundane and stereotypical routines of her college peers.

Her aunt Alice was friendly and always smelled really nice, but she never seemed entirely right in the head.  Her mother used to say that "There is something wrong with that woman."  that "no one could possibly be that happy".  but Katherine didn't mind.  Alice was a wonderful, spirited, and fantastic being.  Sure, she was a little peculiar, but she was always splendid to be around.

However she had these small moments, so small that Katherine was the only one to catch on to them.  It was as if she was not present. Alice would zone out for moments.  They were very small fractions of time, but they were there.  Then she would ask you to repeat what you said just only a second ago.  It was quite weird but not as irritating as it sounds.  It was only a minor thing.  In fact, Katherine was actually beginning to grow exited at the idea of living with her.   She was a comical lady with manner and style.  And her estate would no doubt be luxurious.  It seemed like a win situation and so she took her up on her offer.

"Katherine, where is your head today?", Mr. Lavoy's gruff and stern voice protruded her mind and cleared her thoughts.

"Sorry sir, I am just a tad distracted."

"I can tell.  Now, head up.  This lesson is important."  Mind the fact that he said that about every single lesson of every single day, she still felt that she should pay attention.  And he was right because although she didn't realize it right then, it would become very important in the future.

" So," her profesor spoke.   "The multiverse or the "bubble theory", implies that instead of just one grand, universe that there are,  in fact, not one but many universes.  For example, all of you have taken or shower or bath with soap before. Yes?"  A series of yas were administered.
