"So," my friend, Elise, said, "working in the café now, huh?"
"Yes," I replied proudly, "five days, going strong."
"Lookk at you!" my other friend, Amelia commented, "rocking a new job and all! Proud of you!"
"New perks for you too, ladies," I said in what I hoped was a mysterious voice, "if I take you there for a girls' day hang sesh, I get an employee discount, so, a smaller bill!"
"That would be awesome," Elise said, "I would love me some more of those homemade sandwiches and the breakfast combo where you get the cappuccino along with this amazing English breakfast. When can we go?"
"Maybe sometime after I had gotten my first paycheck," I replied, "I'd like to ground myself into the system before I abuse it."
"What was it again?" Amelia asked. "Personal assistant, right? Since you're getting so close to her, do you think you can try and smuggle me the recipe for her homemade salad dressing?"
"Wait! No! I can't do that! That'll get me fired!"
"Nah, girl, I'm just kidding," Amelia assured me, "just, that salad dressing reminds me so much of Greece, I feel homesick each time I have a salad."
"Miss C's also from there, so she might have the same sentiment," I said.
"Also, can I add," Amelia said with a giggle, "I know you can't see her, but you've got a really cute boss ..."
"Uh ... What the hell?" I was completely caught off guard from Amelia's remark, "Why did you tell me that? I mean, she has a really nice voice and she smells like cinnamon, which is nice, but ... She's my boss!"
"What's with blind folks and voices?" Elise said in a mock thoughtful tone, "I mean there's so much more to look out for than the voice."
"To look out for," I repeated flatly, "something I ... can't do, so there's the voice. Also, I can ask you the same question, Elise. What's with sighted people and LOOKS?"
For a moment, there was a silence, then, Elise came back with, "I wish you could see how much you suck."
"I know," I replied with a grin, "you described it perfecttly."
"Aaaanyway," Amelia broke in, "so, Elise, Brigid, seriously! Knock it off! It won't help you pull funny faces at Brigid, Elise! She can't see how much you say she sucks, she can't see your funny faces."
"How old are you, exactly?" I put in, aiming that towards Elise.
"You're insufferable!" Amelia said exasperatedly, "both of you! Anyways, there's something I've been wanting to tell you guys, on the topic of new jobs and such."
"What is it?"
"Our drama club has a new director."
"What! What happened to your previous one?"
"She retired," Amelia repliied, "but the new director's actually nice, and from what it looks like, he knows exactly what he's doing. He had immediately picked up on the plans of the club."
"What's his name? This is the first I've heard of him."
"We call him Mr. Annastasios," Amelia replied.
"Hey, whoa, whoa! You Greeks sure are taking over, huh?" Elise joked.
"Oh, that's right, Ellie-bear," Amelia replied sassily, "gradually, discreetly, like bath water heating up, and by the time you wake up, everyone would be assimilated, complete with brand new names and passports, their eyes, mysteriously blank!"
