Dear Sibling

My hands on my forehead

He’s crying again

He can’t say what he wants

His and my eyes are red

Why can’t you tell me?

Why can’t you explain?

You can’t tell me “I love you”

But you spell your own name

So different yet alike

With this chaotic toddler

It’s quite hard to decide

Which of us is the more odder

I’m the only one who won’t jump

His blazon hoops of fire

But it’s me who’s the most

Frightened and the most tired

Is this how you tell me?

Is this how you explain?

You don’t tell me “I love you”

But you spell out my name

Spit up on my shoulder

Snot in my hair

It’s amazing how much

A big sister won’t care

As I wait for the dawn

And the sunshine to peak

I don’t care about the others

I’ve lulled him to sleep
