"Hey dad! I didn't expect you here?" Stiles sounds a bit confused as he opens the door for his father. It's around four in the afternoon and he just got Billie downstairs from her nap. The sheriff ignores his son and reaches out for his granddaughter, who excitedly babbles back and is happy to be held by her grandfather.

Derek moves around them to the front door, greeting Stiles' father on his way. "Hello son," Noah greets back, "I left the cruiser unlocked."
The Alpha makes his way over to where the police cruiser is parked next to his own car and opens the door to the backseat of his Camaro to remove the car seat. They recently upgraded to a proper car seat instead of a maxi cosi, as Billie finally got too big for it. They got away with using the maxi cosi at first, because Billie seems to have inherited her mother's petite build, save for the baby fat. Now, she has two new car seats. Stiles has one in his car and Derek has one in the Camaro. The sports car doesn't have the roomiest backseat, yet it works fine when you're not even one year old and your feet barely reach beyond the end of your car seat.
Inside the house he can hear Stiles question his father as to why the car seat needs to be switched over to the police cruiser. "You're not expecting me to transport my granddaughter without a car seat, are you now, son?"

"No," Stiles sputters. "I was just wondering why you'd want to transport her at all!"

Derek can just imagine Noah's dry look. "I have to get her to my house some way, don't I?"

When Derek gets back inside, the car seat safely clicked in the isofix latches, he tells the sheriff he'll get Billie's bag for him from upstairs.

"Her bag?" If Stiles hates one thing, it's being left in the dark about something. He calls after Derek, flailing his arms about to make his confusion known. "Are we having dinner at pop's? Why didn't I know we'd be having dinner there?"

"You won't be having dinner there," Noah points out. "I'll be having dinner with my granddaughter. No dads allowed."

"I made reservations for us at Gino's," Derek says as he sidles up to Stiles, holding Billie's overnight bag out to the sheriff. He wraps an arm around Stiles' waist, pulling him close. "We can all get breakfast together when we pick her up tomorrow morning."

"Tomorrow morning?!" Stiles rounds at Derek with wide eyes. "She's sleeping over?"

"We're gonna have a good time, right, little one?" Noah tells his granddaughter where she sits on his arm. "We'll be fine, kiddo," he says to his son, who is honestly looking a little betrayed right now. "It's not my first time, you were a baby at some point too."

"That was over twenty years ago!"

The sheriff waves his worries away with a chuckle. "I doubt anything has changed in that time. Besides, you deserve the night off. Both of you. Go have some fun, go on a real date for once!" It's adorable how Stiles flushes at the mention of him dating Derek, especially because his father assumed they'd been dating all along already.

After they've waved the sheriff and Billie off, with many cuddles, kisses and promises to get breakfast together at the diner first thing in the morning, Stiles lets his head fall back against Derek's shoulder. He's leaning against the Alpha's chest, with Derek's arms solidly around his waist. "I can't believe you went behind my back and planned a date night."

Derek noses around the side of his face, humming contentedly. "Figured I needed to step up my game when it comes to wooing you."

"Wooing?" Stiles smiles and turns in Derek's arms, wrapping his own arms around his neck. "Will there be wooing?"

He nods, trailing kisses down Stiles' jaw. "First I'll get you the finest Italian food in town, with the best wine. Then, we'll go for a walk in the moonlight and when we get back, we'll have the whole house to ourselves." Stiles lets out a pleased moan in response, closing his eyes when Derek catches his lips for a kiss.
