Recap...
If they don't see me they could just walk past but if they do I'm going to need as much of a head start I can get.Without thinking I start sprinting out of the bush.
Kiera POV:
Despite the pain I'm feeling I continue running for what feels like hours. My chest is burning at this point but I don't want to slow down or look behind me.
After a while it becomes inevitable, I have to slow down.
Looking around a bit I see a park to my left so I start running towards there. Luckily no one is here besides some elderly in the distance so I hide in a tunnel trying to catch my breath.
It's nearly impossible to be quiet with how hard my breathing is though so I don't know how well my hiding spot is.
A few minutes pass and I start to relax slightly. I haven't seen any of them so far so I think I lost them.
As I'm looking across the park I decided to get up again and head towards the tree line.
The forest area will cover me more the a little tunnel can.
I slowly crawl out and go to make a run for the trees before my movement is stopped and I'm suspended in the air.
Not even a second later men come in front of me and start to surround me. "I got her," the man that's holding me says.
I break out of my shock and start to fight him but he's just like Alessandro. Like a vice. "Good, get her in the car," I hear Alessandro say walking up to me and the man.
"Don't let her go," he says and stands there. A few minutes later a few cars pull up and the man holding me carries me to one as Alessandro follows.
The rest of the men go to the other cars and we start driving back to the house. I continue struggling but I know it's useless. My legs and arms are completely pinned down.
There's no getting out of this.
When we make it back to the house the man carries me out of the car and Alessandro comes around to take me from the man carrying me. "Everyone back inside, I'll take her to my office," he says while walking into the house.
He takes me through the halls of the house and stops at a door. He shifts me so he can open it and as soon as he's inside he shuts and locks the door. He walks over to a seating area and sets me down on a chair glaring at me.
I stay still, too scared to do anything.
He eventually sits down after looking for some paperwork in his filing cabinet.
Alessandro POV:
This is going to be a lot harder then I thought. My little cousin is a runner. I don't know what to do if she continues running away.
She can't just leave us now that we have her.
I managed to get her into my office without her putting up much of a fight and she's sitting quietly so at least she's calmed down.
I started looking through the files I have on her. The social worker I met gave me them and I haven't had a chance to look through them yet, I just had them sent back here.
The good thing is we were already in Italy for business so we could take her right away.
Now we're back in New York.
After I'm done looking through her paperwork I look up to see her sitting in the same spot I set her in. I don't know what to say to her but I have to get her to stop running and she has to learn the rules.
I don't think punishing her at this point would help.
"Why did you run?" I decided to ask.
"I don't want to be here."
"It's not up to you, and you can't run away just because you feel like it."
She stays silent.
"If you try to run away again we will have to lock you in your room. Your freedom is a privilege built on trust in this house." I say and she just glares at me.
"There are some rules you have to follow," I continue and she looks down.Kiera POV:
As soon as he said rules I started thinking back to Rodger's rules. Rodger's rules were cruel, and breaking any of them came with abuse.
What if Alessandro makes the same ones?
Even if they aren't the same what about the consequences?
They can easily be worse, they have more men to hurt me here. Not just my cousins but even the security people all over.
"Rule number 1, get good grades at school and don't skip," Alessandro says.
That's not a problem.
"Rule number 2, no boys, if you want a male friend then we have to approve of them."
I don't like boyfriends anyway.
"Rule number 3, no drugs or alcohol."
Who does he think I am?
"Rule number 4, give us respect. We will return it."
What have they done to earn my respect?
"Rule number 5, if you want to go anywhere you have to tell us."
Definitely not.
"Rule number 6, don't go to the top floor or the basement."
What is this, Wattpad?
"Rule number 7, we expect verbal answers and eye contact when we speak, it's a sign of respect."
I seriously hate this.
"Fine," I say and look up.
"And Rule number 8, don't run away, I know you don't want to be here but don't run away it's not safe."
I'll still do it.
"Fine."
"That's the last rule, everyone will introduce themselves at dinner and Alfeo will show you around the house later," he says.
"Ok, can I go now?"
"Yes, I will take you to your room. Are you going to run away again?"
"No," I say but I think he can tell I will try again. Who even asks that kind of question? Of course I'll lie.
"If you do, there will be consequences," he tells me. This time he speaks differently, his voice is colder.
I just nod and walk out completely ignoring the talking rule. I start walking away and Alessandro comes out of his office. "I'll take you to your room," he says and walks towards me. I forgot he said he would take me. I can't wait until I can get out of here.
"Let's go," he says and starts walking in front of me. I follow him to a long hallway and he takes me to the end of it and opens a door on the left. "This is your room, my room is right here," he says and points to the one to the right of my room, "If you need anything you can come to me, I'll be there or my office. It's already 10:00 pm so go to bed, introductions will have to wait until the morning," he says and walks away.
I enter my room and close the door.
I set my things on the couch and look around. My room is like 10x bigger than the flat I was living in.
I decide to take a bath before going to bed. I don't know how I managed to even move let alone run without my pain killers. I'm in so much pain right now, I hope the bath can soothe some of my pain.
I have to make the pain killers last so I'll only take them in the mornings. After my bath I put on some sweatpants and a baggy t-shirt.
After tossing and turning for a bit I manage to get a few hours of sleep in.
