Who Are You?

I had just met Tristan a few hours ago, but now I think he's already told me about half of his life. I love listening to people talk about their lives. Back at the orphanage, no one ever talked about their lives because it was too sad. Alice was the only person, before Tristan, who had ever talked to me about her life.

Tristan's life was almost the same as mine. He'd lost his mother when he was really young. His father married another woman when Tristan was eleven. No one cared about him and so he decided to run away.

Hmm... I wonder what Tristan meant when he said that I might be wrong about him being human. Maybe he really isn't human. What if he's a...

"Hey, you listening to me" he snapped.

"Oh, um... sorry"

"What were you thinking about?"

"Nothing interesting"

"The expression on your face says that you were thinking about something very serious before I interrupted"

"Trust me, it's nothing"

Something made noise from the trees in front of us.

"W...What was that" I asked.

"Wait here, I'll go and check"

One minute he was there and the other he was gone. I waited there patiently for him to come back. A few minutes later, I saw him coming from the opposite side.

"It’s nothing to worry about" he said in a calming voice. "There’s a highway ahead"

I walked ahead, desperate to see something other than trees. As soon as I came out from the bushes, I saw a truck heading towards me in full speed. My feet remained planted to the ground and my brain didn't respond. I had no idea what to do.

All of a sudden a pair of hands, as cold as ice, grabbed me around my waist and pulled me behind the trees. I just caught a glimpse of the person face for a millisecond. This definitely wasn't Tristan, this person was short and had blonde hair and the most terrifying thing on him were his eyes which were blood red.

In no time at all, the person carried me as if I weighed nothing and started running at a speed so high that it seemed inhuman. I couldn't see anything properly, the trees of the forest blurred by me making me dizzy.

"STOP!" I yelled. He didn't seem to be listening and just kept running.

I saw another person running behind us at the same speed.

Tristan.

"TRISTAN! Help me!" I shouted out

"Don't worry, I'm coming" he assured me.

And he did come. Before I knew it, Tristan punched the person who was carrying me and both of us fell to the ground. I hit a tree hard and my forehead started bleeding.

The unknown person got onto his legs and started at me as if I am lunch. He is staring at me as if he hadn't eaten in days and suddenly found the tastiest thing on Earth. This is completely horrific. I have no idea what is going on.

"Now you leave me no choice" the unknown man said and pounced towards me.

Just when I thought I was taking my last breath, Tristan leaped between the unknown man and me.

I closed my eyes and didn't dare to open them. All I heard was the sound of Tristan and the unknown man fighting. The only difference was that it didn't sound like humans fighting. It sounded like two boulders were being thrown at each other. Then I heard something much unexpected, the sound of something ripping. Soon after that I smelt dense smoke. My eyes couldn't stand the smoke anymore so I had to open them to wipe away the tears. First, I saw smoke all around me and couldn’t see a thing. Eventually, the smoke cleared and about ten meters away from me, I saw a fire with Tristan standing beside it. The unknown man was nowhere to be seen.

Tristan didn’t look as if he'd just had a fight. He just looked normal.

As soon as he saw me open my eyes, he was beside me in less than a second.

"What was that?" I asked him.

"It was nothing"

"Nothing?! You call that nothing?! Please tell me Tristan"

"It's nothing you need to worry about"

"Nothing I need to worry about? Who was the one being carried away by that man? Who was he? Why was he running away with me? Why were his hands so cold? How could he run so fast? Tell me Tristan. There are so many questions and I need them to be answered if you want me to come with you"

"I can't"

"What do you mean you cant?!" I shouted at him as I felt anger take over me.

"I can't tell you what all that was"

"You know what Tristan, now I'm starting to regret the fact that I trusted you". I picked up my backpack and stormed away from him as tears started forming in my eyes.

What was I thinking? How could I trust this man to show me my parents, I didn't even know him till a few hours ago. I knew I was a complete idiot, I souldn't have followed that sign in the first place.

"Electra! Wait!" Tristan shouted out from behind me.

"PLEASE! Please, just... just leave me alone"

"Electra"

"LEAVE. ME. ALONE"

I ran away from Tristan, just hoping that he wouldn't follow me.

I kept running for a long time. I didn't stop once.

Hours after the sun had set; I slowed down and collapsed onto the ground.

What am I supposed to do now, going back to the orphanage wasn't an option. Even if I wanted to, I wouldn't know the way back.

Just before sleep was about to take over me a voice behind me said “Electra, please listen to me”

“The only thing I want to hear now is an explanation”

“Ok I will explain everything”

Now that he was going to explain, I faced him and waited for him to begin.

“Just before I tell you anything, I want you to know something”

“What?” I asked impatiently

“Your parents are what I am”
