Unexpected

Blue. That's the first thing I saw when I woke up. The sky was bright blue with soft white clouds floating around in it. Hmm... its very pretty and relaxing.

I had experienced something no ordinary human would experience yesterday. It was hard to sleep during it, but eventually, my eyes gave away.

I stood up and took in the unfamiliar surroundings. I was expecting to see the usual, trees, but what I saw amazed me.

I was standing in front of the biggest house anyone could imagine. It was more of a mansion. The mansion looked exactly like the ones you see in movies, big, ancient and mysterious, also a little scary. The difference was that the garden was really well maintained, making it look a little more inviting.

The giant front door of the mansion opens. I am scared that some huge slimy monster will walk down the stairs any moment.  I don’t really want to know what comes out of it but am relieved when I see Tristan walking towards me.

“They’re not there” is the first thing he says to me.

“Who?” I asked, puzzled.

“Your parents”

“Wait...This is where my parents live?” I asked, amazed.

“Not really, it’s mine. But they’re not here right now. They never leave unless it is something very important. I can’t think about anything very important that would make them leave, except…”

“Except what?”

“Electra…they went through a lot to find you. They even broke a major vampire rule. If anyone found out, the consequence would be death”

“Death? What rule could be so important that the punishment would be death?”

“Vampires have a lot of rules and breaking any of those rules mean death”

“Wait, you told me you broke a rule by telling me about your existence. That means – “

“If someone that doesn’t know me found out, they would report me and I would be sentenced to death” he finished the sentence for me.

I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. Both Tristan and my parents risked their lives so that I can be re-united with my family.

“Tristan, I… I really don’t know what to say. Why would you risk your life for me?”

“I didn’t have any reason to live before. I was just a waste of space, but now I do have a reason to live. It is my job to take you safely to your parents”

I did the only thing that came to my mind. I hugged him. I really didn’t know how to thank him for all this. My embrace would have left a human gasping for air but Tristan had no problems. See, I told you being a vampire had its advantages.

I slowly pulled apart.

“Thank you so much Tristan, I don’t know how I would have gotten that far without you”

“I’m glad I met you too. It’s good to have someone in your life that you care about”

I blushed, thinking about that fact that he cared for me. I never really had too many people care about me, especially a boy. But then I remembered something else that drained all the blood from my face.

“My parents, you said they broke a rule, their life is in danger. Does this mean that someone found out and reported it? Is that why they’re not here?”

The smile on Tristan’s face was gone as soon as he heard what I had to say.

“I… I don’t know. That could be the reason but I really hope it’s not.”

“How do we find out where they went?”

“I’ll have to look around for their scent”

Their scent? Tristan had said nothing about vampires having a scent. But right now, I couldn’t care less. We had to find my parents. I put them in danger so now I have to help get them out of danger.

“Climb on my back, we have to hurry. The Royals won’t be that far behind”

“Vampires are really very confusing. Who are the Royals?”

“Have I ever told you that you ask too many questions?”

“I –“

“Just climb on to my back. We need to hurry”

As soon as I was on him back, he started running. I couldn’t really understand much, but it looked like we were circling the mansion.

Just as we were about to complete a whole round, Tristan suddenly stopped.

“Tristan, why –“

He was off, running into the woods before I could even finish my whole sentence.

I think he caught their scent because, even though it seemed impossible, he was running faster than before.

I looked ahead, trying to see something. My hair was being tossed arround by the wind and it was very hard to get it off my face. Even if I did get it off my face, seeing any detail would be immpossible.

After what seemed hours of seeing things blur by, I began feeling dizzy. I remembered what Tristan had said earlier. He’d told me to close my eyes if I was feeling uncomfortable, and that’s exactly what I did.

I had a feeling this was going to take a long time.

AN - I hope you enjoyed that!!
