That night, April stayed up listening to the sound of the raindrops hitting against her roof. In the morning, she listened to the birds chirping, watched the sun rise and the sky change colours. April enjoyed the little things like these. As she was walking to school, she stopped and kneeled down and petted a cat that was passing by.

'And they call me emotionless,' she thought. She realised the cat had hurt its leg. Then, she saw a boy throwing rocks at the cat.

"Stop that you asshole, what did the cat do to you?" April shouted at the boy. He looked at her and then ran away. April looked at the cat.

"People are mean, aren't they." she said.

"Meow," the cat replied. April looked at the cat for a little, and then stood up.

"Alright, I'm taking you home." she said picking up the cat. "Who cares about school anyways."

April went home and treated the cat's leg. Then, she made it a little house and gave it food and water. April heard her mum coming back from work.

"Alright kitty, you gotta stay quiet now." she whispered to the cat. A week passed. April hasn't been going to school and stayed with the cat. That Friday, her mum came home angry.

"April! Why haven't you been going to school?!? I got an email!" she yelled.

"I had more important things to do," April replied.

"More important things? What kinds of things?" her mum shouted again. Then, the cat came out of its basket. There was a moment of silence.

"You skipped school for a CAT?" her mum was about to explode.

'Isn't that a good reason..?' April thought to herself. Suddenly, her mum grabbed the little cat and tossed it out of the window. Everything seemed to happen in slow motion. April saw the cat flying out of the window, but she knew there was nothing she could do about it. At that moment, felt deep hatred for her mum. Before her eyes, she lost everything she cared about. Just like before.

FLASHBACK, 10 YEARS AGO, AGE 6:

"My parents are mean," April told her bunny plushie.

"April! Stop talking to that toy like it can understand you!" her mum shouted at her.

"Well it can understand me better than you!" April said crossing her arms. "All you do is make me sad! At least Tokki doesn't make me sad." April said hugging her plushie and smiling.

"I've had enough April." her mum said grabbing the plushie and tossing it out of the train's window.

"NOOOO!" April shouted in despair. She popped her head out of the window, but her bunny was already out of sight. Her mum pulled her back inside. Tears were running down her cheeks.

"I hate you." she told her mum. "I hate you, I hate you!"

AGE 16 (THE PRESENT)

"I hate you!" April yelled. "Why do you keep taking away everything that I care about?"

"Huh, would you look at that. You got emotional over a cat." her mum laughed. Then, she walked out of the room and started going down the stairs. April ran and pushed past her. That made her mum lose her balance and fall down the stairs. April turned around to see her mum unconscious on the floor, but then she ran to the front door out of breath. When she opened the door, someone was standing there.

"April..? Are you alright?" Liam asked. Then he saw her mum on the floor.

"Omg April what happened?" he asked shocked.
