School has officially started. So quickly, people start to lose track of the days as they slip by. Classes, homework, clubs, sleep, repeat. Logan, with his obsessive calendar skills, manages to slip into the cycle just barely enough to not lose track of time. Though the only thing separating seven am and two pm is the lunch period.
So right now he's in swim class. The only real class where he knows what time it is since the open outdoors has the sun. They swim in the lake, something Logan's always found a bit odd. It probably wasn't in the budget for a pool, but they definitely won't be hosting swim meets any time soon.
"Agh, I dropped my goggles. Lo, can you get them? They shouldn't have sunk too far," Patton asks apologetically. He squints at Logan, hoping to himself that it's actually him and not someone else."Yes. Give me a minute." Logan dives under the surface, scanning the dark lake depths for Patton's goggles. What's unfortunate about the lake is that it's a lake. So it's got sand, plants, and murky waters. That's not ideal for looking around for something.
Maybe some light could help? He's never tried to form light underwater, but it shouldn't be impossible. After all, it's a sunny day out with lots of light at the surface. He kicks up to the surface, looking around for bright spots in the area. As one of his teachers had said, they're the best places to draw light from.
"Did you find them?" Patton asks.
Logan shakes his head, diving back below once he managed to form a ball of light. It's simpler than a flashlight and easy to manipulate to point towards specific areas. He can have light surround him or pinpointed on a certain place.
But then he sees something. He turns around, shining the light on where he could have sworn he just saw a figure. He would call out for it, but he's underwater. Not very possible to talk. He sees it, again and again, a figure just in the corner of his eye. He can never quite reach it and never see its full form.
He sees the shadowy figure moving in a specific direction, and since his parents never told him not to follow mysterious shadow beings you find at the bottom of a lake, he decides to follow it. To be fair, he's never been at the bottom of most lakes. This isn't a life lesson that comes up that often.
As he swims, avoiding plants and rocks, he's led to a small sort of cave. The shadowy figure sits in it, but Logan is running out of air. He needs to get to the surface. He kicks harder than he's used to, the feeling of not enough air in his lungs becoming more prevalent by the second. He tries to keep calm, this is a feeling he's gone through before. The swim team he used to be on did a lot of breath-holding training. It was his least favorite part.
He makes it to the surface where he's immediately bombarded by Patton Concern™ and Roman telling Patton to let him breathe.
"Logan! Oh my goodness you were under there a while! And don't you know you can't use manipulation underwater?! It drains way too much energy! Holy oatmeal raisin I was so worried!!"
"Did you get his goggles?" Roman asks, swimming just a foot away. He's stopped trying to get Patton away.
The goggles! Logan mentally smacks his forehead. This is why you don't go around chasing shadows! You forget what you originally were doing and then get attacked by someone who shows a little too much concern when you risk your life just a little bit.
"That's alright! Roman can go get them!" Patton says, looking over at Roman, who immediately scowls.
"I'll get my hair ruined! I can just buy you a new pair anyway, they're probably at the bottom of the lake by now!" Roman protests.
"Should've worn a swim cap then. Plus, those are prescription goggles! I'm not even sure if I'm talking to Roman right now!" Patton says. He is looking in the wrong direction to face Roman.
