It was a big night for Y/n. The ncaa women's volleyball championship final was today, and she couldn't be any more nervous if she tried.

Being in college in Michigan meant that y/n and Mitch had to do long distance, and he was on a road trip to Calgary and would miss tonight's game.

Before the start of warmups before her game Mitch sent y/n a text basically saying good job and how sorry he was he couldn't make it.

Y/n looked at her phone screen and sighed. She understood why he couldn't be her, but she still felt sad.

"Come on y/n/n, cheer up. We have a game to go play. Don't let Mitch not being here bring you down. He's probably watching the game in his phone or something." Y/n's teammate Rachel said.

The game had started and it was already neck and neck. It was 4-4 before y/n went to serve. The whole gym was quiet, which was shocking for a championship. She served it over and aced it. Y/n continued acing the ball until the other team called a time out. She never knew her serves were like that. Now the game was 7-4.

The next few points were gained by the other team again. It was just the first set and the game was really intense.

Michigan ended up winning the first two sets, but then Kentucky won the next two after that.

Michigan was up by one, they were at game point. This last serve could mean anything. Rachel served the ball, making it over. Kentucky passed it, and the setter ended up dumping the ball. Luckily our middle got there quick as she dove for the ball keeping it up. The setter then passed it to the right side where y/n was, and she took a giant swing in the ball, sending it to the back corner. The ball hit the ground, and both teams waited impatiently for milliseconds for the line judge to say wether it was in or out.

The flag was pointed down to the ground, and all the Michigan girls from the sidelines ran to the court. They were all jumping up and down celebrating, while also congratulating the other team on just being there.

Soon y/n was pulled away for an interview with espn, as she had gotten the game winning point.

"So y/n how does it feel as a senior to get that championship winning point for Michigan?"

"You know, it feels really great. These past four years have been amazing, and to make it this far with these girls really means a lot. We've worked really hard this season to make it this far and I'm just super proud of this group."

"Well, we can see that your teammates are really proud of you, as they all sprinted towards you right at the whistle."

Y/n just smiled greatly, but still kept in the back of her mind how she wished that Mitch was here to share this great moment with her.

"Now, y/n, if you'll turn back to your team, they have a huge surprise for you."

Y/n nodded as she turned back to her team and her eyes immediately fell on Mitch. She took the headset off handing it to the interviewer, and ran to him.

"You're here! Oh my god! Is this even happening right now?" Y/n jumped into Mitch's arms as he spun her around, both with huge smiles on their faces.

"You really think I would miss a moment as big as this? We didn't actually have practice or a game today, I just lied so I could surprise you here. I'm so fucking proud of you."

"I'm so happy you're here. I can't even think straight. This is seriously the best day of my life right now. I have everything I could want right here." Y/n said with tears in her eyes.
