"Someone's there."

Aly and Charles stopped talking and slowly turned their heads to were I was looking. It was mainly shrubbery growing on uneven land with the occasional tree. But there was a certain bush I was focusing on, a certain person.

"What? No ones there," Charles murmured as he squinted over my shoulder.

"No, she's right- the leaves are moving on their own." Aly remarked. Her eyes narrowed as she retracted her hand from the air, "There's no breeze."

I stood up as well as Aly and Charles. The figure turned and darted away, and without thinking I sprung into action. Jumping over ditch I quickly dodged past a tree and skidded down a slope. I was gaining on them quickly. Charles not that far behind.

The person turned a sharp corner, and zigzagged through the bush. I don't know why but it was something in the way they ran told me it was Gavin.

I would of been just able to grab him if he didn't take another sharp corner left, I pushed off hard with my foot springing forwards with a burst of speed and-

He stopped abruptly. Aly jumped out of a bush in front of him. Instead of grabbing his shirt I ran right into him accidentally and we both fell to the ground.

"...Why were you listening to our conversation? Are you a spy for Mack?!"

I said it a bit louder than intended, that happens a lot. Aly stepped forwards along with Charles behind us. I loosened my grip on his shoulders and stood up.

"I- I wanted to help you guys Mack and everyone is going crazy and you guys look like the only sane ones here. Can I help?"

Sane? He obviously hasn't met us yet.

Aly beckoned me and Charles over. As we drew nearer I realized that Aly must've met other groups, maybe they weren't as stable together and were ending up like Koen and Mack. I would've thought that it'd take more than food to make our class crazy.

I guess I was wrong.

"I think Gavins loyal." I whispered. Charles and Aly exchanged doubtful looks, "What? I think he's loyal." I guess loyal was the wrong word, perhaps not insane enough to attack us?

Aly paused, thinking. Charles blinked and rubbed his forehead.

"Wait, didn't he just say we were the only sane ones around?" Aly glanced over at Gavin, before turning back and nodding at Charles. I looked over at Gavin, he was farther away but not gone. I called over to him and repeated Aly's question.

He stood up, running his fingers through his hair nervously. That's unlike him, he's normally really laid back, calm and funny.

"It's true. There's Mack, he's crazy. Koen is crazy 'cause he's crazy, George is acting weird-" ...I can aggrey with him and those three people, to be fair everybody's acting strange.

"And there's nothing wrong with us?" Aly cut across him.

"Well from what I know, yes." Gavin fidgeted his his hand and eventually crossed his arms. I put my hands on my hip and leaned forwards.

"What's one plus one?" I asked mockingly.

"Twenty!"

"Eighty four!"

Charles and him both responded at the same time, I laughed and said,  "I don't think he's going to make it! Give him CPR!" Charles leaned down to Gavin who was sprawled across his back on the ground, pretending to wheeze crazily.

"One, two, three! One, two three!"

Turns out Charles is a pro at CPR. All three of us are laying down on the ground, quietly chuckling to ourselves. It's been a few minutes and Aly wandered off, I can't believe we were so dramatic a few minutes ago.

"Congratulations," I said, "You passed the sanity test."

Charles paused then sat up, "Are those blackberries?"

Gavin also sat up, "Dam, I'm hungry! I'll take your word for it."

"I wouldn't-" I muttered.

Too late. Charles already plucked off a handful, and Gavin open his mouth wide and stepped back allowing Charles to shoot multiple berries at his mouth. Most of them missed but the few that went in weren't blackberries.

"Do you want to kill yourself?!" I said loudly, standing up and swatting the berries out of Charles hand. "Its February! Blackberries don't come out 'till spring!"

Gavin immediately spat them out gagging and coughing, Charles on the other hand ate one.

"Charles I swear to god you-!" I yelled at him, half amused by his stupidity, half frustrated.

"I'm fine, relax." He said casually, Gavin chuckled. "Common let's play soccer!"
