Chapter 37

“I am Felix’s boyfriend.”

As soon as the words left hyunjin’s mouth, the reporters went wild with their loud questions and thousands of photographs. Hyunjin knew at this point that there was no coming back and that he just came out to basically everyone on the planet. Hyunjin was having it hard for the first time in front of the media personnel.

Although he didn’t want to show it, he couldn’t help but break out into a cold sweat due to the amounting nervousness and the repercussions of his action. He felt alone, he was about to go into a panic episode when he felt a warmth around his hands. This time it was Felix who was holding his hands to calm him down, this time it was Felix who noticed his discomfort. This thought was going around in Hyunjin’s mind for some time before he was finally able to calm down and regain his composure.

“We will be taking your questions now but I hope you don’t ask anything that is out of the boundaries.” Said hyunjin in a commanding voice

“When did you start dating?” asked a reporter after a few seconds

“It has not been that long. We have been dating for nearly three months. But to be completely honest, I have liked him for a rather long time.” Answered hyunjin

“Why are you two dating each other?”

“Is that even a question? Isn’t it because we both like each other. We don’t have any other sinister reason to date.” Said hyunjin

“Do you know that the public and your fans are very angry with you? What do you want to say to them?”

“I am well aware of the general opinion of me dating hyunjin. But before we proceed into my case let’s talk about every Korean celebrity who has gotten embroiled in a dating scandal. Why can't we be free to date whoever we like? Why do we have to think about what people think about us whenever we want to date? Aren’t we just humans who have feelings? We can also fall in love and we can also date if we like someone. I would like to say that my case is not different. I fell in love with a guy and now we are dating, it’s that simple. I hope people don’t mind my personal relationships and care more about the music I put forward.” Answered Felix

“Do you really think that the people will accept your relationship?” asked another reporter

“I don’t need them to understand me. This is my personal life and I am free to date whoever I want, no questions asked. I certainly hope people can give us their blessings, but it won’t matter if they don’t agree with our relationship. It doesn’t matter to us.” Said Felix

“Then do you mean to say that you don’t care about the fans that supported you?”

“Please don’t try to twist my words. All I am saying is that I don’t care about the people who don’t support my relationship. I will be forever grateful to my fans for supporting our group and bringing us this far but gratefulness only goes so far. I cannot dedicate my whole life just because I have to please my fans. My true fans are those who care more about the music we put forward rather than my relationships.” Said Felix

Seeing Felix like this for the first time, hyunjin was pleasantly surprised. He had wanted the whole world to know that they were dating. He had waited for this moment for so long. Although he would’ve preferred coming out themselves before anyone found out, he was glad that no matter whatever happened, Felix was still with him. He was glad that Felix was trying to protect the relationship they had. But when hyunjin was trying to get closer to Felix by shifting in his seat, suddenly a reporter got up and asked the question they both had hoped would be left out today.

“Aren’t you afraid of what people will say about you?” asked the man

But before Felix could answer the question, hyunjin came forward to answer this himself.

“I am sure that we both are pretty afraid of what people will do to us, but should we just give up on our happiness just because of what people will think? Should we hide our true self because of your belief?”

“Then aren’t you afraid of going to hell?” asked the man

“You are a well-educated journalist, right? How can a journalist ask such types of questions without even thinking twice? Do you even listen to what you are asking?” asked a bewildered Felix

“I know what I am asking so just answer my question.”

“Can I know which company do you work for? And what is your name?” asked hyunjin

“I am Joseph and I work for the ‘zealot daily’.” Answered the man

“I figured.” Said hyunjin with a sneer

“To answer your question, No, I am not afraid of going to hell if I have to. I will rather lose heaven than lose a piece of myself. I know that religious people always ask this type of question to every LGBT person they see. But is your faith that weak that you can’t stand other people being happy by loving whoever they want? Is your trust in God really that strong if you have to scare other people about going to hell if they don’t listen to you? I don’t mind us having different opinions, but I do mind when people like you force different people to have the same mindset as yours.” Said hyunjin in a rather calm yet stern voice

“Why can’t you just be normal and lead a normal life with a girl?” asked joseph

“You know, I really doubt your educational qualification after this question but it’s none of my business. Coming back to your question, who said that it is normal for a guy to love a girl and abnormal to love a guy? Your heteronormative thinking should be changed. We are not harming anyone by loving each other.” Said Felix

“I would love to continue educating you on different perspectives around the world but I don’t think it would do anything, so I would like to ask you to simply leave. I have deemed you to be too conservative to not even ask proper questions so I wish you would leave this instant to save both of us the embarrassment from your questions.” Said hyunjin before signaling to Daniel to ask some security personnel to escort the man out of the building.

As Joseph was approached by two security guards, he grumbled a bit before packing up his things to leave the premises. Although he was still not satisfied with the answers he had received to his questions, he knew that irritating Hyunjin or Felix was not a very good idea. So with much reluctance, he moved towards the door but before he could leave the room, he heard hyunjin say something to the whole room.

“I know that many of you present here are not supportive or are rather disgusted by a gay relationship, but I hope you all don’t forget your duty towards the public as a journalist. I hope you all publish the things the way we said them rather than twisting our words to make them more marketable. Our company has the camera recording of the whole press conference, so if the need arises we will release that video for the public to see. We will also press charges for libel if anyone of you publishes something that is not true. I hope your integrity as a journalist is strong. Thank you and with this, we would like to conclude our press conference.” Said hyunjin before standing up and bowing down politely to thank the press correspondents present in the room.

But just as everyone was preparing to leave the room, Felix turned on the microphone to say something.

“I would like to extend my gratitude to the fans around the world that have supported us the whole way and I would like to ask them to see us the same way as they did before. We are just two people in love and it’s nothing different than anyone else so I hope you all will be happy for us. We both are happy with each other and that is all I can ask for. Thank you and I hope you all have a great day ahead.” Said Felix before grabbing Hyunjin’s hand and walking out of the room with him.

Felix was trying to process what had happened this morning when hyunjin said something.

“We finally came out of the closet,  love.”
