Chapter Four

-Derek's P.O.V.-

I woke with a start.

"Mine..." My wolf and I growled lowly searching for the warm body that should've been lying next to me.

Then memory caught up to me. My wolf howled for her. My Mate.

The one I had treated so low and poorly.

'I'm sorry... I am so... so sorry...' I tried to tell her. I've tried for the past year and a half. But she never answers... I had hurt her as her mate... even if I was chosen because I was best suited. I was also a beta... while she was of lowest ranking... that's what did me in. I needed to claim a mate.. she didn't want to be claimed and...

I cringed at the memory.

"Derek. Hun. Get up. There's a pack meeting this afternoon." My moms voice called from the other room.

I groaned and sat up. "Whatever happened to the time when dad still went to those?" I asked.

"They ended when your dad did." she said simply, coming in to my room to grab my clothes. "They're probably making you chose a mate. You're 18. You shouldn't be living with me. You're also beta. You're pulling your rank down slowly." she said.

I rolled my eyes and got out of bed. I didn't care anymore.

The Fates had chosen her as mine... It wasn't the Alpha or my family... I'd felt the SoulSparks as soon as I'd touched her. Nobody knew but us.

My wolf whined and cursed at me for hurting her and letting her grandfather take her away.

As I got ready for another pack meeting I sighed sadly. 'I'm sorry... if you can hear me... I want you to come home..'
