I wake up after a long nights sleep, feeling very crusty and disgusting. Immediately, as much as I'd like to get straight to work, I get out of bed and shower. After washing my hair four times and lathering myself in tons and tons of strawberry body wash, I finally feel clean. My blue-green towel is sitting on the rack, and I quickly wrap myself in it so I don't get too cold. I change as fast as possible and air dry my hair (surprise, surprise. This little shack didn't come with electricity; just running water).
Headed outside, a small gust of wind hits me, moving my hair into a different position so that it sticks to my back, causing me to shiver. I hadn't expected it to be this brisk outside, but I guess that's what comes with moving here in Spring; it is only the third of Spring, so it's not like it's going to get all that hot that fast. One a sigh escapes my lips, I grab my watering can off the porch and water my fifteen parsnip seeds. They're mostly all at the same height as of right now, and I hope they'll grow soon.
I whisper a little something to all of my baby plants and head off into town. It's already around noon, seeing as I did sleep in pretty late. I guess I'll greet a few more of the townspeople. Gee, I have to stop calling them that. Technically I'm one too now, even though I live on my own. I don't know, it made more sense to me when I said it in my head.
Thankfully, this time I know my way to town (at least, I remembered a bit of it). I decide to go through a little gap in fencing to see a blocky blue house with a purplish roof. Just as I'm about to knock, I bump into a guy who looks to be about my age with spikey yellow hair, exiting the house.
"Sorry! I wasn't watching where I was going," The guy says to me while putting out his hand to help me up.
"It's alright," I chuckle while taking his hand. "I wasn't really watching where I was going either, so it's not like I can entirely blame that on you - although it definitely wasn't fully my fault." I give him a fake little glare, hoping it's not too soon into meeting him to realize that I'm only teasing.
Thankfully, he gives me a little quiet laugh. "I'm Sam, by the way," he says while taking his hand away from mine. I can feel my cheeks getting red.
After clearing my throat, I say, "I'm Amelia. I just moved into the farm over there," I point toward where grandpa's - or, should I say my - farm is. "Well, I guess you probably knew that already, since I seem to be the talk of the town." I give a cocky, triumphant smile, and Sam laughs this really contagious laugh that has me laughing in mere seconds.
"Haha, yeah, I had a hunch. I gotta run, though, or I'm gonna be late to work. It's good to meet you, though."
"Yeah, you too. I'll see you around?" I say, though it comes out as more a question than a statement.
"Yep, you sure will," He says after giving me a tiny smile.
I smile back, before realizing that he's turned around to go across to the other part of town. Sheepishly, I take the smile off of my face and knock, this time, without getting bumped into. "Hello?" I call after not hearing anyone inside. It's probably best to not go into their house without even meeting them first. That is, if anyone else even lives there. It could just be Sam, as far as I know; he did say he has a job.
Shaking my head, I start to ponder why I'm thinking about him and getting into his personal life. It's none of my business. Just as I'm about to head home, the door opens and a brown haired woman shouts, "Hello?" She then sees me, and says, "Oh! Are you the new farmer?" Before I can even respond, she says, "You aren't exactly how I imagined... but that's ok! I'm Jodi."
Kind of an odd way to greet someone, but I try my best to be as nice as I can. Nice to meet you, Jodi! I'm Amelia. I'm still getting used to the new town, so I'm sorry if I startled you when knocking on your door."
Jodi gives me a sweet smile and says, "It's ok! Nobody knocks on anyone's doors here; we're all like a little community, so I knew it must've been you when I heard a knock." There's another smile as she continues, "Stardew Valley's a quiet little town, so it's exciting when someone new moves in! Having a farmer around could really change things, too."
"Well, I sure do hope I live up to everyone's standards," I joke. Jodi laughs and it sounds just like Sam's. They have to be related; mother son, probably. "I'd better get going; it's getting late, and I've had a long few days." I feel bad for leaving so soon, but I am tired; I barely slept at all last night, and it truly has been a tiring few days.
"Oh, ok! It really was nice meeting you, Amelia! See you soon!" Jodi sounds so full of happiness, a little bit of it rubs off on me.
"Thanks, you too, Jodi! I'll see you around." I give a quick wave as she disappears into the doorway. I smile to myself as I walk through the middle of town, not even caring who sees me or what people think of me. Maybe, just maybe, I made some friends today.
A/N - here's another addition to the story; surprisingly enough, I'm posting every night. I'm proud of myself. :) I hope you guys are having a good day/night. Stay safe, and thanks for reading!
