The Reaper's Successor

Let the Investigation Begin!

"Agent Nichols, you are to report to Megan Rose's office as soon as you hear this announcement."

This message was sent through the speaker system that was spread out through the whole office and it definitely got its purpose as the intended target was headed towards his intended location.

Miles Nichols, 24 years old, was a bright and smart FBI agent who had only been working for a year since he was recruited to join. He had been working hard throughout his whole life and achieved his goal of working for the FBI at the youngest age possible. He was the top scorer for both his academics and physical fitness. He was basically the ace of his generations.

Miles wondered why he was being asked to report to his director's office. He tries to recall anything he had done recently that might have gotten him into trouble but nothing comes to mind. He had just been out training the whole of last month preparing and keeping himself in shape if he were to be assigned a new mission.

He had reached the office door of his director. He held his breath and entered the room hoping it was not any bad news for him. It would be too much for him to take. Inside was his amazing and powerful director Megan Rose. There was also someone else in the room though. He seemed to be another agent but it was not a familiar face he recognised.

"Agent Nichols, I see that you have gotten my announcement to meet in my room. Please take a seat. I will brief you shortly on what is going on."

Miles felt nervous. This felt way different from all that he had gone through so far. He sat down on the seat quickly and soon the projector in the room lit up and something was being displayed. Mission.

"Alright, let me do a quick introduction. This is Agent Walker from the Intelligence division. Agent Miles from the Crime Investigation Division. The rising star. That's what all my employees have told me about him." Miles was feeling slightly proud after being complimented by his director.

"Focusing back onto the mission on hand, I have called you both here to talk about the deaths that have been occuring around multiple towns throughout the United States of America for the past two years. There have been at least thousands of reports of deaths ranging from Florida to Washington and there have been no successful cases where they have found a culprit or an actual cause behind these deaths."

That was bizarre. How could there be thousands of unsolved deaths that go completely unsolved.

"All of these cases have mostly been concluded as murders but no perpertrators have been arrested. Not a single one. This usually would not have been flagged as an alarming issue but until recently a series of reports in a town caught the attention of one of the higher ups. In Michigan, Detroit there is this town called Youthville where it has one of the cleanest crime rates in the whole of the United States. It had around 50 years of no crimes that occurred there up until recently there had been three cases all filed as murders."

Miles was wondering what he was actually here for but he continued listening.

"Alright, now time to tell you what you are here for. Agent Nichols you have been assigned this mission of investigating this mission with the help of Agent Walker by your side. You are to work with the local police station of Youthville to find out the truth behind these deaths. Agent Walker will be providing you with all the information of past similar cases and more information of this case.This is an important mission for you as this will determine how far you can go in the FBI."

Miles was so ecstatic after hearing the news. He was getting his first own mission assigned to him. He could literally die on the spot right there and then. He had to keep his cool and be collected.

"I have sent you all the files about the reports into your email. Take a look at them and try to find possibly anything the local police station could have missed out and decipher them. I wish you success on your mission Agent Nichols. Agent Walker, you are to assist Agent Nichols to the best of your ability and provide all the information needed for solving this case. You will be sent there for in-person investigation in about two weeks. Alright that was all from me, you are now dismissed."
