Makayla

I don't think I've ever heard nor have I met someone named Nahoya Kawata. Who the fuck is that?

Once Mrs. Kato finished calling out the names, I went over to her desk to figure out who this "Nahoya" dude is.

"Um, Mrs. Kato?" I say, getting her attention. She turns toward me and I took that as a sign to keep talking. "I heard you say that my partner is Nahoya Kawata,"

"Yes, is there a problem?"

"No ma'am, there's no problem. I was just wondering who that is," I say. If my skin were lighter, I would definitely be blushing right now.

"Oh, he's the one near the back. You know, with the peach-colored hair?" I turn in the direction she's pointing in, and sure enough, I see two boys. They look alike, except for their different hair colors and expressions.

I start walking to the peach-haired one. The blue-haired one had already left to go be with his partner. Nahoya looks up at me and I shift uncomfortably.

"Um, are you Nahoya?"

"Yeah. Are you...Makila?"

I look at him, dumbfounded. Did this bitch really forget my name? "No, I don't know any 'Makila's.' My name's Makayla, jackass."

His smile grows wider as my frown grows. "I like you, Makayla."

Nahoya

Mrs. Kato said that my partner's name is Makayla Sato. The only thing is, I don't know anyone named Makayla. Isn't that some kind of foreigner name? Who is she?

Soon, a girl I've seen somewhere before comes up to me. She looks foreign; maybe this is the girl.

She shifts uncomfortably as my gaze shifts to her. "Um, are you Nahoya?" she asks nervously.

"Yeah. Are you...Makila?" Damn, how have I forgotten her name that fast? She looks at me with an astonished expression.

"No, I don't know any 'Makila's.' My name's Makayla, jackass."

I feel myself smiling wider. She's interesting. "I like you, Makayla,"

She rolls her eyes and sits next to me. "Okay, I know this is a group project, but I want to do all of the work myself. I know how the people in this class are, and quite frankly, they'll just hold me back. All I need you to do is pretend you're working with me."

Usually, I would just let my partner do all of the work, but it's no fun if they're volunteering to do it. "No,"

"No?" she says, looking up at me. "What do you mean 'no'? Don't you want a good grade?"

"This is a partner project, meaning we have to work together."

She goes quiet for a while, before letting out a loud groan. "Fine, I'll let you work with me, but the second you hold us back, I do all of the work myself."
