"You got an appointment with Barbara Tinsley?" I demanded of Tim, he was trying to explain to me this Claire girl they had met. This girl, a platinum blond who was one of Charlie's class-mates had insinuated her way into the group. Not actually attending, simply calling on Discard and video-chatting with the children in the school's dorm room. Everything was hooked up now and Claire, Charlie and Starfire would hog the screen for hours, talking about school. Explaining to Starfire what school was and socialising.
Myself and Diana had been discussing the project budget when Tim dropped this bombshell on me.
"Yeah, look. I know she's a super-villain tailor, but"
"That's not what I'm surprised about!" I interrupted, "Barbara has a business front heroes use, High Impact Fashions!" I waved off the discussion idly. "But there's a year long waiting list to see her! You're telling me Claire walked in and she immediately saw you!"
Tim nodded, he looked nervous. He'd started being nervous the moment he had to admit he'd been in the mall.
Yes, I'd given Charlie a harsh look when he announced that. But still.
"Who'd you get?" Diana asked.
"Oh, um. Charlie's outfit is Plastic Man. Starfire is Wolfman."
I nodded at the descriptions, stretching and regeneration powers respectively. "And the new jackets are made from your hair!" his voice squeaked at the end. Diana laughed as, in the background I heard Claire drop off from her voice chat with the other kids.
I laughed too, scratching my bald head. Yes, I'd sold some of my hair to a super-villain tailor. A lot of heroes did this. With any luck I'd be getting a new top soon.
Diana's full laughter simmered to chuckling as she spoke; "The waiting list for Barbara's is well earned, nobody knows what spells she uses to spin hair into super powered clothing but she's been making a killing off it legit, so we look the other way!"
I nodded, "Honestly kid, I'm impressed. Some leadership skills were definitely exercised. I had put us on the list to get costumes from HIF, but you beat me to it. Congrats. Send me the paperwork she drew up, I assume we're paying them off in installation!"
"Yeah." We wandered back to the main dorm, the boy heading to fetch the paperwork.
The news played on the big screen: "Yes, that was really about the last thing I expected from a Turtle!" the announcer had been saying. Something about a turtle hero in New York.
"Now, Viewers at home we have some amazing news for you. Our very own villain reporter, Livewire has come forward with an interesting interview.!"
I perked up. The male reporter, if he was male, it was hard to tell under all the catfur. He took up a split-screen with a young villainess. She wore a long leather suit set up with microphones, speakers and other audio gear, including weird antennas. Her skin glowed a faint blue in places where some trace of her ultimate power over WIFI signals and other RF frequencies flickered traces of information across her body.
"Yes Aris! The Inscrutable Machine has come forwards with an interview!"
"Really! Last time you met them they threw you off a building!"
"Ha ha!" the villain reporter exaggerated a laugh. "Well it won't be a repeat I hope!"
a smooth voice in the background responded casually, barely picked up by the microphone. "I dunno, if you ask nicely I might do it again!"
The woman coughed and the camera panned across. They were sitting on a roof, the kids that is. Thankfully the lady reporter stood further away. "Bad Penny! It's an honour to have you on our show."
