The sky was a deep grey, you watched as the rain slowly began to drizzle from the sky. You pulled out your umbrella to shield yourself. Inkopolis had slowed to a soft hum, everyone had left. Where had they gone? Who knows. The city of color had become bland, and tasteless. Only a year and a half after the Chaos vs Order Splatfest, the world had spun into an unrelenting war.
The governments of the world had decided that it was best to separate the two sides. Inkopolis was a wasteland, the air was barely breathable. You missed the fresh, salty air. But you knew that after the events of the past year, it wouldn't recover for a while.
Only a few stayed behind. All of the rich, and high-ranking teams had disappeared. You didn't know why you stayed. You didn't know why you should've left either. It's not like you had a turf-war career ahead of you. So you instead spent your time attempting to rebuild the city. You felt like its caretaker of sorts.
By now nature had taken over. You looked over at a now torn-down building, multiple saplings had sprouted up amid the destruction. You walked over to the building and knelt down. A single flower had come up from the rubble. You smiled, maybe the city wasn't so ugly after all.
You heard a faint sobbing noise coming from behind a wall. You slowly crept towards the sound. You accidentally stepped on a stick, and it made a soft cracking noise. The sobbing instantly stopped. "H-hello?" You heard the figure squeak.
You peeked behind the wall and saw a boy. His face looked soft, however, it was stained with tears. His sun yellow tentacles had fallen over his face. He was wearing a white-ish jacket. It looked like it had seen better days, and the design was faded.
The boy looked shocked. He backed away in fear, as you slowly walked towards him. "Are you alone?" You asked calmly. "M-my older brother left me..." You saw tears form in the corners of his eyes. "H-he didn't want to stay..."
You felt sympathy for the poor boy, his brother had left him. He looked as though he was shivering. "I thought I could stay...I thought it would get better!" You instantly felt the boy's pain. He had a good heart, he just wanted to help.
"He said it was a lost cause...but I don't want to let go..." You walked towards him and kneeled down in front of him. You held open your arms, beckoning him. He practically fell into your arms, sobbing uncontrollably. You silently held him as he told you his woes.
"It's okay...you're safe now" You mumbled as you stroked his tentacles. "I-I...just don't know what to do anymore" The boy sobbed. In an attempt to distract him from his sadness, you decided to ask a question.
"What's your name?" You asked softly. The boy lit up at this. "Prince!" He beamed. "Do you have anywhere to stay, Prince?" You asked calmly. "Not in particular, I'm kind of just floating around" Prince muttered as he wiped the remnants of tears from his face.
"Want to head back to my place? I think we have similar motives" You held out a hand, and Prince simply chuckled. "You know, you sound like a villain trying to bring me to the dark side" He grabbed your hand as you helped him up.
"Maybe I am!" You said in a joking tone. Prince shook with laughter. You soon realized you were still holding his hand. You quickly pulled your hand away in a single flustered movement. Your face flushed a bright I/c. You mentally punched yourself for this, you couldn't embarrass yourself in front of the first person you'd met in...what? 3 weeks?
"Haha! Let's go back to my place!" You nervously laughed. "Alright!" Prince smiled at you. "Lead the way!" You smiled back at him, cod he was so intoxicating.
The walk back to your apartment- er- 'hideout' was silent. With the occasional banter between you two. By now it had stopped raining. It was still cloudy, it was seldom sunny anymore. You lead Prince up the stairs of the Deca Tower.
He gasped as he saw the room before him. You finally lead Prince to your make-shift balcony. "I can see the whole square from here-or...what's left of it" Prince looked down in disappointment. "Don't worry, we'll restore the city to its former glory soon enough"
You ruffled his tentacles as walked towards your fridge. "Soda?" "Sure" "I have Strawberry, Orange, or Lemon" You sifted through your fridge. "Lemon please" You threw a Lemon-flavoured soda at Prince. And then proceeded to grab yourself a Strawberry soda.
You popped open your soda and leaned on your fridge. Prince plopped down on your couch and lightly sipped on his. He looked out onto the balcony, and you caught yourself staring at him. He was incredibly attractive now that you thought about it.
He looked back at you and smiled. You quickly turned away, in an attempt to hide your blush. "You know, you're very pretty!" You practically choked on air after Prince said that. "Uhm, thanks!" You managed to breathe out.
"Are you okay?" Prince asked. "Y-yeah! Just had a little cough, that's all!" You fake coughed hoping he would buy your act. "Okay..." He said. He didn't buy your half-ass show, but who cared. "Are there more people here?" He asked.
You looked down, not wanting to meet his eyes. "The last people I found...were dead" You looked away before clutching your fists in anger. You could've saved them, but you didn't make it in time.
Prince looked at you with utmost concern. He set his soda down and lifted himself off the couch. He pulled you into a hug, despite your efforts to avoid him. "It wasn't your fault, no one blames you for anything" Prince's statement made you stop crying for a moment to look up at him.
"Y'know, it's been months since I've seen a boy, much less hugged one...Can we stay like this for a little longer?"
"Of course"
Bruh this was so dark for Prince-
I feel horrible about this .-. AnYWaY here's a makeup oneshot that I've had in my drafts for like months. It just needed a little touching up, so yeah.
