"Open it." Snape demanded, and Lyra felt a cold shiver run down her spine.

Harry, however, stayed unbelievably calm, doing as he had been told.

Snape pointed his wand at the map. "Reveal your secrets." As he said the words, ink appeared on the parchment, spreading like thin, dark vines.

Lyra got on her tippy toes and looked over Harry's shoulder and quickly read what the map said. Snape would not be happy about that.

"Read it." He said slowly, threateningly.

"Messrs Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot, and Prongs offer their compliments to Professor Snape and..." he faltered.

"Go on." Snape drawled, looking extremely pale in the wand light.

"And request that he keep his abnormally large nose out of other peoples business." He looked up defiantly as he said this.

"Why, you insolent little-"

"Professor!" Lupin said loudly, startling them all. Snape turned around quickly, abandoning the teenagers.

"Well, well. Lupin." He said tauntingly, smirking. "Out for a little wander in the moonlight, are we?"

"Are you both alright?" Lupin asked coolly, stepping towards the kids. Harry nodded while Lyra just stared, unmoving.

"That remains to be seen." Snape interrupted, snatching the blank map from Harry's hand. "I have just now confiscated a rather curios artefact from Mr Potter."

"Take a look, Lupin. Supposed to be your area of expertises." Lupin took it from him calmly. "Clearly, it full of dark magic."

"I seriously doubt it, Severus." Lupin said, examining the map. "It looks to me as though it's a parchment designed to insult anyone who tries to read it. I suspect it's a Zonko product."

Lyra, finally coming to her senses, nodded enthusiastically.

Snape made a grab for the map but Lupin pulled it closer to himself . "Never the less, I shall investigate any hidden qualities it may posses. It is, after all, as you say, my area of expertises."

He folded the map neatly. "Harry, Lyra, would you come with me please? Professor, good night." And he stalked off, Harry and Lyra trailing after him, shooting glances at each other.

Lupin opened the creaking door to the Defence Against the dark arts classroom and aloud the two Gryffindors entry. "Come in."

"Now I haven't the faintest idea how this map came to be in your possession, but quite frankly I am astounded that you didn't hand it in." He seemed only to be talking to Harry, which was fine by Lyra.

"Did it never occur to you that this, in the hands of Sirius Black, is a map?" Lupin asked heatedly.

Harry shook his head. "No, sir."

"Your father never set much store by the rules either. But he and your mother gave their lives to save yours. Gambling their sacrifice by wandering the castle unprotected with a killer on the loose seems to me a pretty poor way to repay them!"

Lyra felt that this statement was oddly personal and that she was interrupting just by being there.

"Now I will not cover for you again, Harry. Do you hear me?"

"Yes sir." Harry said meekly.

"I want you to return to your dormitory and stay there. And don't take any detours. If you do, I shall know." He waved the map while Harry retreated.
