Lyra didn't know what compelled her to do it, but then she leaned forward, and kissed Harry lightly on the cheek, before speeding off and down the stairs behind the others. Harry followed quickly too, stunned.
Lyra blushed furiously in embarrassment as she sprinted down the tunnel, barrelling towards everyone else. What the hell was that? She thought humourlessly.
She didn't think she had ever seen a stranger group in her life. Crookshanks led the way, then Lupin, Pettigrew and Ron, bunched together awkwardly in the narrow walkway. Next was Snape, hanging like a rag doll, his limp feet dragging along the ground. Sirius was in the middle, holding Snape up with his own wand. Lyra quietly slipped into place next to him.
She heard Harry's loud footsteps echoing as he walked, and then heard them slow as he fell into line with Hermione, who was at the rear.
"You remind me so much of your father, Lyra." Black said suddenly, startling Lyra. "You have his eyes, you know." Lyra knew for certainly that Lucius had icy blue eyes, not grey, like hers. "But you act like him, too... I miss him."
Black then turned to Harry, and Lyra was left in confused silence. She really hoped she didn't act that much like Lucius, and what did Black mean by saying he missed her father? She could hear Harry and Black talking, but didn't exactly catch anything they were saying. She supposed she would ask him about it later.
They reached the end of the tunnel, and Crookshanks leapt out, then Ron, Pettigrew, and Lupin, looking like they were competing in a six legged race. Then Snape, hitting his hard so hard on the way out that it made a sound, but Black didn't seem to care, so neither did Lyra. Then they both got out, Lyra springing out like a gymnast, and then Black needing a an extra helping hand to get out. Then Harry and Hermione last.
The expansive Hogwarts ground looked beautiful in the dark, but it made Lyra's head spin to think that no one else in the castle had no idea what had just happened. Harry looked like he was caught in a trance, his green eyes glazed over, a mindless smile on his bespectacled face.
One of the clouds shifted, and suddenly Lyra could see the bright full moon, bathing her in moonlight and making her look ghostly and pale. The stars beamed bright, and if she looked hard enough she could definitely tell the different constellations apart.
"Lyra!" Hermione screamed, and when she looked back at the party, Lupin was completely rigid, limbs shaking. She stumbled back in fear, unblinking, until she bumped into Harry's chest.
"Oh my god," Hermione gasped from next to Ron.
"Run!" Black whispered to the children, but they couldn't leave, Ron was chained to the quickly transforming werewolf.
Harry leapt forward, but Black caught him around the middle and threw him back towards Lyra."Leave it to me - run!"
Lyra watched in horror as her professors head and body grew at impossible speed. She watched as hair started to sprout on his face and hands, then his coat lengthened even more. The werewolf made a horrible snarling noise and then Sirius vanished, and a large dog with matted black fur appeared in his spot.
The werewolf reared, showing rows of sharp deadly teeth. The dog - Padfoot - leapt forward and latched its pointed teeth into the werewolf's neck. Lyra had to look away, it was all too gruesome.
It was Hermione's shrill scream that made her finally uncover her eyes. Pettigrew had dived for Lupin's wand. Ron, who was already unstable on his broken leg, had toppled. There was a bright flash of light, and then Pettigrew was gone, and Ron lay
motionless in the grass.
