Chapter 2

That was when Bruce told Damian that he couldn't go on another patrol till he was ready, as Damian tried to argue, his father hit him across the face.

Hard enough to leave a bruise and slammed him into the wall by his throat ‘’See you can’t even defend yourself.’’ Bruce said it with such a bored and cold tone that it made Damian shiver.

After that Bruce dropped him onto the floor and left. Alfred watched as Damian tried to ignore the pain and wipe away his tears, finally after a few moments he decided to make his presence known to the young boy. Blinking back his tears, Damian turned his head towards the door, there he saw Alfred.

As Alfred walked towards Damian, he saw that Damian was now trying even harder to hide his pain. Alfred quickly pulled Damian into a hug and watched as for the first time in a long time Damian broke down his barriers and allowed himself to cry.

Alfred was heartbroken for his young master, but he knew that he couldn't do anything to help him. Damian cried into Alfred's arms for around 2 hours.

After a while Damian ran out of tears and fell asleep. Seeing this, Alfred picked Damian up and took him to his room. He put Damian into some comfy pyjamas and laid him in his bed, watching as Titus and Alfred the cat crawled in with their master to try and cheer him up.

Damian stirred and woke softly but he soon fell asleep due the soft humming of Alfred, the quiet snores of Titus and the purring of Alfred the cat.

As Damian drifted, all he could feel was the soft motion of Alfred brushing the hair out of his face and planting a kiss on his forehead while whispering ‘’goodnight, Damian’’ and shutting the door softly.

In Damian's half asleep state, he didn't realise what he was saying ‘’goodnight grandpa’’, little did he know that Alfred had heard what he said and was softly smiling.

Damian woke up that morning with a strange feeling that he hadn’t felt since his mother had left him here. Loved. Damian felt loved. And all of it was thanks to Alfred.
