The wind swirled harshly that night as Izumi stood alone in the Uchiha compound gazing over the lake, she and Itachi has shared a few times over a plate of Dango's. How sweet were those days.
This lake, which looked so soothing under the moonlight is the only advocate of their blossoming love. The serene water reminded her of Itachi who depicts himself as a calm person, yet there is a storm of unresolved emotions always stirring in his heart which he keeps pushing down, under the pretense of being tough.
He is strong! But not strong enough when it comes to human emotions so he hides them and knits a lie which sounds almost like the reality Itachi lived in but on the contrary, it's all deception.
Izumi knows it all too well, she knows him all too well.
This lake is the proof of their bond and the younger Uchiha's also. After the Uchiha massacre, she would always find Sasuke sitting by this lake, looking at his reflection and the kunoichi would silently sit by his side not uttering a word.
Somehow that understanding silence solidified their unspoken bond where Sasuke considers her as his elder sister, even if he never says it out of his fear of losing the people he loves.
This lake has been a memorable spot for her, a special spot.
Two lovers found each other here.
Two lost Uchiha's bonded with each other here.
All this while Izumi knew that the animosity Sasuke carries will eventually destroy this peace and she was right.
Sasuke left the village yesterday night to seek power from the rogue ninja, Orochimaru, thus declaring himself a rogue ninja as well in the process.
Unrelenting tears streamed down her face as she imbalanced from the overwhelming emotions and fell to her knees on the wooden deck.
Everyone she loved died at the hands of her lover who was forced to do such a sin and now the boy, she loves like her own younger brother went rouge-like his older brother too.
She's all alone now. She couldn't save Itachi-kun and now... She couldn't do anything to save Sasuke from giving himself over to the wicked sanin who seeks nothing but the path of destruction.
"Why? W-why did it have to come down to this..." Izumi questioned her fate and everyone else's,
"Why!?". Her scream filled the space in the Uchiha compound which was silenced for six consecutive years, compressing the screams of the oppressed people who wanted to peacefully live but in a world where every nation is at war, it was too much to ask for.
The significance of the Uchiha clan was well known among the five nations just like their agony.
"Itachi-kun, please save Sasuke-kun....h-he's lost. Save him, please!". She begged aimlessly even though aware of the fact that Itachi wasn't there, however she just wished that he was, "Stop this game of hatred, please".
Her vulnerable body quivered by the intensity of her pain, her brown hairs sticking to her wet cheeks as she clutched her chest.
Ironically, the person she loves is the one Sasuke hates, who she considers and raised as her younger brother. But she knows, even in the hate, there is a small amount of love for Itachi too. Sasuke will always love Itachi, even in the darkness.
Sometimes she wonders if...just if she never fell in love with Itachi would she hate him too for killing their clan?
The answer was a simple no, she still wouldn't have hated him because even if there would have been no love there would be understanding since it was common knowledge that the Uchiha clan was planning to do a coup d'etat. Even if it was the doing of the village elders, a coup d'etate was no answer to it. Including innocent villagers in their feud, what difference would that leave between the Uchiha clan's oppression by the village elders? none!
She is glad that Itachi saved their clan's reputation and Sasuke was able to live proudly even after the massacre
She cried for their dead clan which was forced to take such a step after being suffocated to the brink that choosing the wrong path looked like the only right thing,
She cried for the thirteen-year-old who had to kill his clan, his parents, and leave his brother amidst the blood pretending to be the villain when he was just falling apart like this world but like always, people never care,
She cried for the, now thirteen-year-old who has taken the path of destruction. Who has lived with the death of so many people with just one motivation to live through life, to avenge his clan and kill Itachi.
The water was still calm aware of the fact that the girl is suffocating under the pretense of this peaceful water, stopping her breath and torturing herself because she is sick of this pain, she is sick of this feeling so she is trying to numb everything around her, even herself.
The body floated under the water, her mind fighting her to reach the surface for the oxygen but she was so tired of this pain, suffering, and love.
The water moved ever so slightly, circular patterns marking the cerulean surface as Izumi's faint body was lifted from the lake, her heart was beating faintly but strongly. She couldn't decipher who picked her up as her mind was still cloggy, a result of the lack of oxygen.
She needed oxygen, she couldn't breathe through her lungs which were filled with water and her consciousness was going in and out.
After a minute or so, her lungs felt very light they weren't suffocating her anymore. The kunoichi couldn't decipher what happened or what was happening when she felt a hand hollowing her mouth and soft lips touch her's, passing her the much-needed oxygen.
Her stygian eyes opened ever so slowly to a blurry figure looming over her, his lips still over hers, giving her his life.
She never saw the face but the image of sharingan in the night never left her dreams and she knew, who it was.
