hydra's and harry's truce
( NUMBER 12 GRIMMAULD PLACE 1995 )

*·˚ MRS WEASLEY KEPT them all working very hard over the next few days much to Hydra's distaste. The drawing-room took three days to decontaminate; finally, the only undesirable things left in it were the tapestry of the Black family tree, which had resisted all their attempts to remove it from the wall (Cassie was not too fond of that fact), and the rattling writing desk. Moody (who both Hydra and Cassie were still somewhat afraid of, courtesy of Barty jr.) had not dropped by the headquarters yet, so they couldn't be completely sure what was inside it.

They moved from the drawing-room to a dining room on the ground floor where they found spiders as large as saucers lurking in the dresser (Ron practically sprinted out of the room to make a cup of tea and did not return for another hour and a half). The china, which bore the Black crest and motto, was thrown unceremoniously into a sack by Sirius and Cassie, —they had bonded seemingly well in destroying anything and everything that reminded them of the Black family name— and the same fate met a set of old photographs in tarnished silver frames, all of whose occupants squealed shrilly as the glass covering them smashed.

If Hydra had thought that the war would start sooner, she'd be wrong. While the war was albeit smaller in 12 Grimmauld's place than what the Order had told her might be in the near future, it was nevertheless still a war of some sort. Kreacher the house-elf kept appearing wherever they were congregated, his muttering becoming more and more offensive as he attempted to remove anything he could from the rubbish sacks. Sirius went as far as to threaten him with clothes, but Kreacher fixed him with a watery stare and said, "Master must do as Master wishes," before turning away and muttering very loudly, "but Master will not turn Kreacher away, no, because Kreacher knows what they are up to, oh yes, he is plotting against the Dark Lord, yes, with these Mudbloods and traitors and scum. . . .". And it was only when Cassie told him to please just shut it, did he finally stop, even if it was only for a day.

The doorbell rang several times a day, which was the cue for Sirius's mother to start shrieking again, and for the others to attempt to eavesdrop on the visitor, though they never managed to glean very much from the brief glimpses and snatches of conversation they were able to sneak before Mrs Weasley recalled them to their tasks.

It wasn't uncommon that Mrs Weasley would whisper in Hydra's ear and tell her to go and join in on the meeting, and while she appreciated the gesture, it hadn't exactly gone unnoticed by the others. And getting dirty looks from everyone that was around her age (save Cassie, who couldn't seem to care any less, as Hydra would tell her eventually anyway) who she was stuck in a house with was not what she had imagined spending her summer holidays. In all honesty, she didn't quite understand why she was even allowed to take part in the meetings — it wasn't like she was allowed to be there for the entirety of the meetings, nor did she enjoy being there.
