Ares was having me watched. At first I didn't notice it. Something felt off I just figured it was the whole 3 day coma thing, then I noticed Kerr was in the forest while I was and at the doctors while I was, hell the only place I haven't run into him yet is at home and I think that's just because Ares is there to keep an eye on me himself. It's funny because I hadn't laid eyes on him in nearly 6 days since I left the hospital, he hadn't come to bed and when I'd leave the room he'd already be in his office with the door locked. As if it being closed wasn't enough to tell me leave him alone.

When I realized I was being followed I decided to ask Ares about it, well after talking myself into talking to him for 3 days straight, but anyways that's where I was now waiting outside his office while he put me on hold to talk about letting that pack from before stay on his land. When he did finally open the door, the phone was still too his ear and he held up his finger, putting me on hold again, before the same finger came to his lips, now he was shushing me.

"We only have space for the women and children, my men would not feel comfortable allowing an entire army of new men stay on this land. Yes I'm aware that compared to us you pose no threat, but those are the people you should watch more closely. I'm sorry, I have other lands a few hours out of my main land that your men can stay at, but that's the best I can offer for your warriors. Yes I understand that they wouldn't want to be away from their mates, no I don't have a mate," he glanced at me briefly before looking back at the paperwork, my heart shattered, I know he doesn't love me, or even like me, but to blatantly deny me right in my face, I wasn't expecting that, "but I am fully aware that if i did I wouldn't want her to be away from me." He had no problems staying away from me,  he'd proven that over these last 6 days."No, their mates can stay on the other lands with them." He hung up looking as stressed as ever and I only had intentions of adding to it. Even if now all I wanted was to tuck my tail and run. I squared my shoulders and swallowed the pity that made me want to go curl up in a ball.

"May I speak?"  He stopped and then nodded. I'm not sure why I asked, he hadn't told me I needed permission to speak to him before, so what changed in my attitude towards him now. May I speak was a question I had to risk asking my father every time I approached him because if the answer was no, I'd be punished. "Your gamma, he's been every where that I have been," he looked up at me, finally bothering to stop his paper work.

"You have been directly targeted, I can't allow that to happen again."

"Kerr doesn't exactly make me feel secure."

"I don't care, he's a necessary precaution even if just to be able to mind link me when you're in trouble since you're always unconscious instead of protecting yourself." Ouch.

"The trees made it clear I'm only safe with you, I won't fall asleep next time and the trees serve as great warnings for danger. I can defend myself better than Kerr ever could," I was getting defensive I know, but I managed to keep my tone even, not once raising my voice to a level that would warrant punishment. My father was a man that was powerful in title, but physically weak. Ares was strong all around, his punishment was sure to be worse. Ares didn't look upset. He simply nodded before speaking.

"I've seen you fight and i know you'd lay him on his ass in seconds, but having him around you gave me temporary peace of mind so my wolf would calm down while you're not in our direct line of vision. You have just snatched the very peace of mind right from underneath us." He still didn't look upset. "Let me know if that couch is comfortable because that's where you're going to sit until I'm done with this work." He pointed to a comfortable looking leather couch.

For the next four hours this is where I sat. I asked to leave after the first two hours, but he just said no and that he needed quiet to do his work so I had to be quiet. He was finally not on be phone just silently writing, when I finally decided looking around his office wouldn't hurt. I started with the pictures on his shelf, one of him and his father, a carbon copy of Ares, but bigger and older at least in this picture, but Ares couldn't be more than 16. Then there was one of him and a smiling girl with bright blue eyes and shiny blond hair. Ares looked happy in it, though he wasn't smiling, his eyes shone with it. I wanted to ask him about it, but I couldn't blatantly do so, so I decided a game would work, "can we play a game or can I please go downstairs even just to cook?"
