You sat outside in the garden, staring at the sky and waiting for Sir Niles to come around. It was nice out today, no sign of the royal family, Cedric was also out somewhere looking for ingredients, and you could hear the light chatter of birds off in the distance.

"[Name]?" You heard a deep voice call from around the corner. You got up from your perch in the grass and walked around the hedge to see Sir Niles.

"I found myself a wand in town, I'm prepared to be wowed by your knowledge of the magical arts," he said with a bow. He took his wand out his pocket and held it out as if preparing to do something. He was holding in wrong. Very wrong.

You pulled your own out of the sleeve of your robe (y'all ever wonder if you're naked under there? I mean technically you could just wear shoes and maybe tights. Nobody would notice) and pointed it directly at him.

"I know about basic defense, pretty everything on average day to day things, quite a few transformations, and a little bit on attacks. I would ask which of those you want to learn first, but by the looks of it you need to figure out the basics of just general magic," you twirled the wand in your fingertips, pointing it upward as you cast a small firework spell.

He looked at the tiny fireworks that shot off just above your hand in awe.

"By that I mean you're holding your wand wrong," you sighed, walking over to him.

You took his wand from his hand and held it in yours, you could tell it was pretty cheaply made. Something like one of the ones they gave to kids wanting to try out magic.

"You can't just grip it like you would a crayon. You have to hold it out with your pointer on the shaft. The rest of your hand will naturally hold it once you do that, by doing this you'll have more fluidity in your movements. This allows for quicker spells, better aim, and other things of the such."

You handed the wand back to him, watching as he tried to do what you just did. Swiftly you put your hands onto his and helped him hold the wand properly. His hands were concerningly sweaty. This made you question if he had some sort of issue with sweating, or if the heat got to him. It was even hot outside.

Eventually he managed to get it down himself, even being able to twirl it around a bit.

The two of you spent the next few hours practicing different types of wand movements, and making sure aim would be easier. Finally you could get down to the things you knew best, spell work. You didn't actually expect that you would have gotten this far in one day, at any minute you thought that Cedric's voice would ring out into the garden looking for you. He could manage without you, so it was more likely that he had forgotten he even had an apprentice in the first place.

"What types of spells do you want to learn?" You asked Sir Niles, watching as he messed around with his wand.

"You mentioned something about defense, I always thought that was one of the first things sorcerers learned. It would also make me a more effective knight, if I can find a way to sneak my wand into practice of course," he spoke, putting down his wand and staring at you.

"Things such as levitating are actually the standards. Witches are the ones you learn how to do stuff like protection spells first, but that's because they're working on an entirely different base than we are. We all summon are magic from other places. Hence the reason anybody can become a sorcerer, but it has to be born within you if you ever hope of being a witch.

"A lot of children of witches end up as sorcerers because they weren't born with the gifts of their parents. They can still partake and traditions and holidays of course, but the majority of them would never be considered a part of the group. Of course they could become witches the illegal way, however that would mean they would be shunned for the rest of their life."
