All heads turned as the door opened. Hawkins is a small enough town that, when a door opens, you recognize who walks through it. Well, no one knew who this stranger was. Maybe it was her sunglasses. Maybe it was her pencil skirt. Maybe it was her heels at 2 o'clock in the afternoon. Maybe it was because she looked young, but her eyes told a different story.
Either way, no one was expecting her to walk through the door.
"Good morning," the stranger smiled as she greeted the receptionist.
"Morning," Florence stuttered.
"Is Sheriff Jim Hopper in yet?"
"He is," Florence said slowly. "Let me go in and see. . ."
"No need," the stranger shrugged. "Thank you. And, oh, that is a beautiful blouse."
"Thank you," Florence said slowly. The strange woman sent Florence another smile before turning on her heels and walking into Hopper's office.
"Can I help. . ." Hopper's question got stuck in his throat when he looked up as the stranger walked in. He cleared his throat and gestured towards the chair.
"Have a seat," he offered. "What can I help you with?"
The stranger sat down and leaned back in the chair. She moved her watch and showed him her wrist.
"I think we have a lot to talk about, Sheriff Hopper."
* * * * *
"I'm sorry," Hopper sighed as he crossed his arms over his chest, "but this is a little hard to believe."
"Says the man who's literally been in between planes."
"You mean the Upside Down?"
"Yeah," the stranger laughed. "Sure, the Upside Down. You've seen the creature. You've seen the other side. And this is hard to believe?"
"Not that it's hard to believe," Hopper cleared his throat. "None of this is normal."
"True," the stranger sighed. She cleared her throat before asking, "So, can I?"
"I don't know," he hesitated.
"Please," she begged, her normal confidence falling. "I just need to talk to her. One conversation and I'll walk away. She's all I have."
"I understand that. . ."
"I haven't seen her in years, Sheriff Hopper," the stranger said, her voice dropping. "She's my baby sister. Please."
Hopper looked at his watch and sighed. He glanced back at the stranger to see her pleading eyes.
"She gets out of school in twenty minutes," he gave in. "I'm sure she'd love to see you."
