I wake up to the smell of carrot cake and coffee wafting in from the kitchen. I make my way down to the kitchen where I join Lilly at the breakfast bar.

"Cake, coffee?" my mother asks.

"Yeah that's fine thanks," I say.

"Today I'll be going over to greet the new neighbours, maybe you should come and help with the boxes and furniture?".

"Mm, yeah I don't mind."

We head down together, mom holding the cake and Lilly trailing behind me. When mom knocks on the door we are shortly accompanied with a modest and reserved woman.

She smiles elastically saying, "Hey there, you must be our new neighbours!".

"Yes, lovely to meet you! I've brought over some homemade carrot cake," my mother says with the biggest smile across her face, "My names Wendy by the way".

"Oh, I'm Kate. How generous! You didn't have too," she replies looking at me and Lilly with a bright smile, "And these must be your kids?".

"Yes, this is Lilly and this is James. I asked him to come over and help out, that is if you need any?"

"Well now that I think of it, I actually need the couch inside and Marks gone to the shire office,".

Mom pats me on the back and I follow Kate inside.

"It's very nice of you to do this you know?" she says.

I nod with a smirk and look around me. The house is nicely furnished even though there is hardly a speck of furniture in it yet. From where I stand I can see the kitchen where a girl about my age sits. Kate catches me looking and says,

"Oh how rude of me. James this is my daughter Abigail,"

Her eyes are on me for the quickest of seconds but I find myself staring for longer. Her hair falls down her back in the prettiest of ways and her eyes stand out on her like diamonds. It's only when Kate gives me directions, that I snap back to reality.

When the couch is in place and I've helped her with a few other things, Kate offers me lunch and I graciously accept.
