Three days later, Namjoon had sent an email to the entire finance department asking for a brief meeting in his office. According to the email, it was more of an introduction meeting and nothing too serious. Kate worried about the meeting for several hours until the time of the meeting was at hand. Taking a deep breath, she stood, locked her computer, and made her way to his office along with her team. How would he react to her being in his office? Did he know she worked there? How was she going to act normal and not raise any suspicions that they had known each other intimately before this?
These were the questions that she pondered all morning and still had no answer for. She may never have the answer for. But here she is. Heading into his office.
He had a corner office with floor to ceiling windows. The cherry conference table sat on one side, while his desk and library-type shelving behind it was on the opposite side of the room. There were enough chairs at the table for them to all have a seat except him. When they arrived at the office, one of Kate's employees knocked on the door frame to announce their arrival. He was sitting at his desk typing madly away. He briefly looked up at his guests.
"Come on in and take a seat, I'll be right with you folks," he said and returned to his typing. Kate and her coworkers did as they were told, and each grabbed a chair at the desk. Kate found a chair at the end of the table, the furthest from him. Or so she hoped. Her hands were sweaty, so she discreetly wiped them on her pants. While the others quietly chatted amongst themselves Kate was deep in thought. So deep that she nearly jumped in her seat when he closed his laptop. She looked around at her peers, hoping no one noticed. She glanced over at him hoping for the same, but her eyes landed on his dark gaze. She couldn't make out his expression. Anger? Disgust? She couldn't tell. She just wanted out of there as soon as possible.
He stood up and came around his desk towards the employees and they turned their chairs slightly to see him.
"Thank you all for coming today," he began, looking at each one, except Kate. "I wanted to bring you all in today to meet you face to face and answer any questions you may have." As they went around the table introducing themselves and their position, Kate studied him. He was dressed neatly in a navy-blue suit with a crisp white shirt. His tie matched nicely with white and navy-blue specks. His jaw was chiseled, his dark hair neatly styled.
"Next?" Kate was bumped on the arm by her coworker indicating it was her turn.
"My name..." she cleared her throat and started again. "My name is Kate Jackman and I do Accounts Payable. I've been here just shy of 6 months." She said, lifting her chin, daring him to say something. Anything. When he smirked, she could see those deadly dimples she loved so much.
"Thank you, Kate," he replied, nodding almost imperceptibly. Turning his attention back to the group, he began again. "I'm sure you all have a ton of questions and concerns. What kind of boss am I? What will change if anything? And I'm more than happy to answer those questions for you." As he talked, he walked around the room. Or rather, more like paced the length of the table. The closer he got to her spot, the more Kate's leg bounced up and down beneath the table. She chewed her bottom lip.
"To start, I like to think I'm a good boss," he said with a smile, which garnered some laughs from the group, easing some of the tension. "I like to mentor those under me and encourage growth, both professionally and personally." Was he getting closer to her? Kate was sure of it. And if he did, her leg would create a hole in the floor from bouncing so much. "In addition, I have an open-door policy, but please know that there may be times my door will be closed. In that event, please be sure to send an email to see if I am available. I will respond as soon as I'm able.
"I have no intentions of making any changes right off. I would like to see how things roll for the first month or two and then I will analyze how things went and make any changes I deem necessary." He stopped walking and stood in the middle of the room. "I expect high quality work from each of you. Mistakes are inevitable, of course, but I expect them to be rectified immediately. If you make a mistake, own it and correct it. I have high standards and have no doubt you all will be able to meet them." His gaze landed on each person but seemed to linger a bit longer on Kate. She wasn't sure what that was about. She seriously wanted out of this room.
"Does anyone have any questions for me at this time?" He looked around the table as everyone looked at each other and shook their heads. "Very well, I will let you get back to work. I will be here all day today so please don't hesitate to reach out with any questions." He paused and smiled. "I'm not scary, I promise." Everyone chuckled and stood up to leave.
"Miss Jackman, would you hold back for a moment, please?" Those who sat close to her gave her a pitiful look, then walked out. Kate's mouth went dry, her hands sweaty and her legs were like jello so she remained seated. Once everyone was out of the office, Namjoon closed the door before turning back to her.
"You haven't called," he said, his eyes boring into hers.
"No, I haven't," she replied, ringing her hands under the table. Get it together, Jackman!
He smirked, clearly seeing her unease. That did it. She straightened up and lifted her chin in defiance.
"Why not?" he asked, walking closer to her, almost like he was stalking her. Like she was his prey and he was the hunter. She swallowed.
"I haven't had the time," she replied, watching him draw closer and closer to her. He finally stopped in front of her chair. He rolled his eyes and crossed his arms across his chest. He tilted his head before speaking.
"Why don't I believe that?"
She cleared her throat before answering. "It's not my problem that you don't believe me. It's the truth." She stood and moved to go past him, but his arm reach out and stopped her. She looked at his hand on her arm, much like the first time they met, and then looked up at him. She lifted her eyebrow. "I need to get back to work now."
"Just one moment." He said and dropped her arm. It was her turn to cross her arms across her chest. "I wish you had reached out. It would have been nice to continue what happened Friday night."
"It goes both ways, Namjoon. Or should I call you Mr. Kim?" She replied and began to walk to the door. Her hand was on the doorknob when he responded.
"Namjoon is how we met. Namjoon is fine." She could tell he was close by the smell of his aftershave. She gasped as she felt his hands on her shoulders, his cock nestling her ass. "Make no mistake, Kate. I get what I want. I always do. And right now, it's you." She closed her eyes and swallowed. He moved her hair to the side and suckled her neck. She bit her lower lip as her head fell backwards, resting on his chest. She fought the urge to moan, afraid someone would hear.
Wait. Cue the record scratching. What was she doing?!
Her eyes snapped open, and her body tensed up as she turned around to face him. He stepped back a half step when he saw the fire in her eyes. "Mr. Kim," she emphasized, "I'm going back to my desk for the remainder of the day. I can't do this now that you're my boss. That's probably why Dave got canned and I'm not about to be the next one to go. I need this job too damned much. What happened at the club stays at the club. It can't happen again. I will forget it happened and suggest you do the same."
