Clarke's POV
This is the second time I've had to walk back to the drop ship today, though I'm a lot more on edge now than I was earlier. For obvious reasons, the idea of being essentially burned alive in that fog is horrifying, but luckily I have Lexa to keep me safe. Not that I need her to, but just having her beside me helps keep me calm, keeping my mind from racing too much. Though she has the opposite effect on my heart, which feels like it's going to pound out of my chest. Lexa's staying close to me, somewhat protectively. It's pretty cute.
Her shoulder brushes against mine and I give her a small smile, though she's focused on our surroundings, looking around at the trees. I move my hand to hers, slowly intertwining our fingers, which earns Lexa's attention. She gives me a small smile, squeezing my hand.
"What're you watching for?" I ask.
"I'm not sure, Maumen, animals, anything that could pose a threat." Her eyes go back to scanning the trees and I take a glance around too. Seeing nothing I look back at her.
"Do you always have your guard up this much?" I tease.
"Usually... when I'm with you is the exception." There's a certain warmth in my cheeks when Lexa looks back over at me, with that look in her eyes. The look that makes my brain feel fuzzy. For once logic doesn't matter, just me, what I'm feeling, not what I'm thinking. It feels weird, to actually do what I want to do, I just hope it lasts.
"Lexa..." I'm not even sure how to respond to that, before I can find my words, a glint of something metal catches my eye. I look past Lexa towards a bush near the tree and see some movement. Shit, I don't want to draw attention. I quickly look at Lexa, giving a small nod in that direction, and she seems to understand, glancing over her shoulder. Lexa's hand goes to her sword, but she doesn't drop my hand. Actually, she tugs on my hand, pulling me even closer to her. I'm almost in front of her now. Wait, she's trying to get between me and whatever's over there, of course, she is.
"Keep walking slowly." Her hot breaths against my ear, tickling at the back of my neck. Luckily I'm more focused on whatever's hiding in the bushes behind us.
"I think you're forgetting something?" I look over my shoulder at Lexa. She raises an eyebrow confused. "I have a gun." I put my hand on the (gun part), at my side, and smirk. Lexa tries and fails to hide her smile, giving me a nod of approval. Drawing my gun, I keep it low to my side, to try not to tip off whoever's behind us. Lexa has her hand on the hilt of her sword, staying very close to me... which I don't mind at all.
A twig snaps just behind us and neither Lexa nor I hesitate to spin around. IN a quick blur of motion someone charges Lexa, who effortlessly blocks him, practically tossing him backward. I raise my gun to his head and he stops, Lexa has a dagger ready to throw into his skull, but luckily pauses for a moment. When the fighting stops and the guy puts his hand up, dropping a rather familiar bent piece of metal that's been fashioned into a blade... wait Murphy?
"Murphy, what in the fuck are you doing, do you want killed?"
"Wait, the grounder doesn't have you hostage? Where'd you get the gun?" Murphy's wide-eyed, practically gawking at me. Oh yeah, he hasn't met Lexa or any grounder for that matter. Well shit, this is going to be a hard one to explain.
"No, she doesn't have me- " I pause, sighing. "You know what I'll explain later, just don't mention this to anybody."
He scoffs, "Or what Princess?"
"I have a gun aimed at your head." I point out and he nods.
"Point made." He nods to Lexa. "Who's the grounder bitch?"
