"The Eggcarrier has been compromised!" Amy cried.
Those words reverberated throughout Resistance H.Q. like an alarm. Everyone rushed to the pink hedgehog's side, everybody trying to get a glimpse of the small screen she held in her hand. Red circles blipped throughout the outline of the ship, marking explosions and energy surges.
"The kid is doing better than we thought," Knuckles grinned a bit. The echidna ringed in through the device Amy was holding. "Hey rookie, you still in one piece?"
Then, suddenly, a familiar static voice rang through the receiver. "Oh, sure, don't even bother to ask how I am!"
Was that... Sonic?
Amy's eyes widened, and she quickly pushed everyone aside, holding the screen to herself. "Sonic! I'm so glad!"
Amy and Knuckles wrestled to speak to Sonic. Silver was relieved to know that Sonic was alright. Thank God for that rookie! If it weren't for Shadow giving Silver the info on how to get into the base, who knows where Sonic would be.
Who knows.

"And, thanks to you, Sonic back," Rouge said, her voice buzzing over the communicator on Shadow's watch. The hedgehog scoffed. "Don't be so stupid. I wasn't trying to save him. I wanted to see the doctor fall."Rouge rolled her eyes. "Sure, Shadow. Why don't you come by? We miss you at H.Q."
"No," he refused. "I have other places to be."
"Alright then, tough guy. I'll talk to you soon."
The receiver clicked off. Shadow sighed and made his way out.

The agent found himself returning to the place where he had seen Silver, hoping to see him again.
He did.
The white hedgehog waved to the other, walking up to his side.
"Shadow! Hi, how are you?" Silver beamed from ear to ear.
"Fine. How about you, Silver?"
"Much better now. Sonic has returned. Maybe we'll have a chance."
Shadow scoffed at that name. "I heard."
"Yes, I'm hoping that maybe if I help out here, things may change in my future." Silver spoke, eyes full of determination. "But enough about me, why did you want to meet me here?"
"I needed to give you something," he replied. Shadow handed the other a watch, similar to his own. "...It's so we can communicate better."
"Oh?" Silver held the watch in his hands delicately. He examined the device curiously, studying the intricate details. "Gosh, thank you, Shadow! I've never had something like this before." The white hedgehog looked over at the agent, beaming with joy. Even though the gift was merely so that they could navigate the raging war better, Silver treated it like a birthday gift. That innocence was something that Shadow admired. He wished he could navigate the world with rose-colored glasses as Silver could. He was a lot like someone he once knew.
He was a lot like Maria.
"It's fine," he replied finally, after staring at Silver a second too long. "That's all I have to say for now. I have to go."
"Aw. Alright. Our visits are always short... And you never tell me where you're going!"
Shadow merely shrugged and took off. "See you later."
'Because I don't have anywhere to go.' He thought. 'You're my only home.'
