Law and the Lawbreakers

Chapter 10

After two weeks of following Luffy through the forest and making sure he didn't get himself killed, they finally made it to the end of the forest. Luffy ran around in what looked like a garbage dump trying to find Ace after he'd lost him, but Law, Lammy, and Artemis didn't feel like searching through that stuff for him and decided to stay near the treeline to see if they could find him there.

Eventually, after Luffy got his head stuck in about 30 different places, Ace did come running into the forest, now carrying a bag of what sounded like money. Luffy spotted him and followed him into the forest and Law, Lammy, and Artemis followed Luffy in the treetops.

After a few minutes of running, Luffy came to a stop at the base of a tree. "Ship?" he yelled toward the top of the tree. "You guys are gonna be pirates? And you have hidden treasure already? I'm gonna be a pirate too!"

Law looked over and found Ace and another boy wearing a blue coat and a top hat in the tree. He wasn't sure where the 'hidden treasure' Luffy mentioned was until he scanned them and their surroundings and found that the tree branch they were standing on was hollowed out and the treasure was inside. "Creative," he muttered, then turned to his sisters. "Their treasure is in the tree branch they're standing on. It looks like they hollowed it out for a hiding place."

"That's so cool," Artemis said, looking over at the pair in awe. "Law, can we make a secret spot to keep all our treasure?"

"One day when we have enough treasure, sure."

"Yay!" Artemis shouted. Law and Lammy both reminded her to be quieter, though Luffy's cheers from below them had made it so the two boys in the other tree couldn't hear her.

The boys raced down the tree and both punched Luffy in the head, shouting at him to shut up. Artemis giggled.

"What are you laughing for?" Law asked her. "You're probably just as stupid as him."

Artemis pouted at him. "Law, that's mean! Lammy, Law's being mean!"

"Law, don't be mean to Artemis," Lammy said with a long-suffering sigh. She's had to have this conversation about 10 times this week and it was only Tuesday.

When they looked back down at the boys, Luffy was tied to a tree and Ace and his friend seemed to be talking to him, but they were both holding a length of metal pipe each.

"I told you, didn't I? You need to live here . The mountains made you tough but at this rate our whole plan's gonna be ruined. What now?"

"He knows our secret. We can't trust him to keep his mouth shut, he's too stupid," Ace paused. "We'll kill him," he said gravely.

"Yep," Ace's friend nodded. "Sounds good."

"No!" Luffy screamed. "Stop this is scary! Somebody help me! I don't wanna die!"

Artemis looked up at Law. "Can we go help him?" She asked.

"Gimme a break, this kid is the worst!" Ace's friend exclaimed, trying to shut Luffy up.

"Hold on," Law said. "I don't think they're gonna kill him."

"They just said they would!"

"Shh, just watch," Law said, pointing down at the trio.

"Just kill him already, hurry it up!" Ace said.

"He's your problem, why don't you do it?" Ace's friend shot back.

"Because I've never killed anyone before, okay?"

"Well neither have I, I don't know how this crap works!"
