I spend a lot of time in my office. I work in business spending the majority of my time making calls and preparing for meetings. I work in business management and I love the office I work in.
Today I was told that our new employee from Australia was coming in today for her first day and will be alongside me today. I was excited. We haven't had a new person come to the business since Tom Buckerson, a tall man who talks like he should be a soccer coach.
I continued to work in my office waiting for her arrival before my boss came in.
"Enzo, glad I caught you," he said with a smile. Brad was a very happy man, I don't think I've ever seen him without a stupid big grin on his face. It was contagious. He took a seat in the chair across from my desk, bending his leg so that his ankle rests on his knee while he leaned back in the seat.
"How can I help you sir?" I leaned back in my seat and gave him my undivided attention.
"You know you are incharge of getting the new girl used to this place right?" he asked. I nodded slowly. "Well, would you be able to stay later than expected? I know it's last minute but I really want her to feel comfortable in our workspace considering the fact she is one of five girls in this business" he explained.
"I'm sure I can stay here. I was supposed to be home to cook dinner with my wife, but I'm sure she'll understand" I smiled. He nodded and smiled as he stood up.
"You're the best Enzo. New girl will be here in a little bit so clean off your desk and straighten your nametag" he patted my back before leaving my office.
After he left I pulled out my phone and called Robyn. Once she picked up I immediately began to speak.
"Hey so I won't be home for dinner. I'm stuck at the office tonight. I have to train one of our new people so I'll be busy. Sorry" I said. I waited for her response. I felt bad because I had told her that I would cook tonight, but I knew she'd understand.
"Oh, uh...ok. I'll figure something out for dinner. Don't worry about it" she said. I could hear it in her voice that she was a bit annoyed, but I knew it would be fine.
I heard a knock on the doorframe of my office. I looked up to see a woman standing at the doorway. She smiled at me, showing off cute dimples. Her wavey, long brown hair was parted in the middle and over her shoulder with thin bangs just over her eyes. She was dressed in a blank dress that went down just before her knees, showing off her long legs. She had a small handbag around her shoulder and wore a blazer. She was beautiful.
"Ok, well don't wait for me, I won't be home until late," I said to wrap up my phone call with Robyn.
"Ok, I love you," she said. For some reason I felt like I couldn't say it back. Like it was unprofessional in this moment.
"Yeah, I'll see you later, bye" I said before hanging up. I knew she'd have a problem about me not saying it back. I always say that. Why couldn't I say it this time?
I stood up to greet the woman at my office door.
"You must be Clair,"I said as I began to walk closer to her. " I'm Lorenzo but everyone calls me Enzo". She shook my hand.
"I'm sorry for interrupting your call, Enzo," she smiled. Her voice was just as beautiful as her looks. It was soft and delicate like a pretty flower. She had an Australian accent which made it so much better.
"No worries," I said. "Take a seat, let's chat a bit" I said as I guided her to the seat across from my desk. I went back to my seat as she started telling me about herself. Why she moved here, where she worked back in Australia and how she got her way here and was excited to start working with us.
After a while we went on a small tour around the building. I showed her my favourite coffee places in the building along with printer rooms and bathrooms. I even introduced her to some of the other girls in the office so he wouldn't feel alone. I told her about the current office drama about how David and Beth can't work together because they were married and their divorce ended badly. We laughed and talked and made lots of office jokes with each other already. It was nice.
"You know, I have worked here for almost 7 years and I have never made a friend like you in this office building" I laughed as we entered my office once again.
"I know, I'm pretty rare," she giggled. "You've worked here for 6 years?" She sat in the chair across my desk while I flopped into my chair.
"Indeed I have, going onto my eighth" I smiled.
"Wow. So this must be quite a good business if a fine gentleman like you has spent almost the years of your life here" she tilted her head and smiled showing her perfectly straight white teeth. Is she flirting?
"It's a great business" I said, giving her the same look she was giving me now. "I hope you like it"
"think I will, my tour guide seems very passionate about his job, it's convincing" she moved her bangs out of her eyes, just so they could flop back into her face.We sat in silence for a moment. "It's getting late, we should eat," she said, breaking our silence.
"Sure, what would you like? I'll pay" I said.
"I'm not picky. And you don't have to pay." she giggled. I liked her giggle. It was sweet and cute. I wanted to hear her giggle more.
"So I'll order pizza, we can eat in the conference room while we set your account up on your new laptop" I said as I began to dial the number of the nearest pizza place.
"I like the sound of that. I'll meet you in the conference room in 20 minutes" she got up and began to walk towards the door.
"Where are you going?" She turned around and leaned against the doorframe and smiled at me.
"Well if we are getting pizza, we will need some beverages. I saw a vending machine in the lobby. You want a pepsi?" She smiled at me.
"A pepsi sounds nice" I smiled back and leaned back into my seat, getting a good look at her. She left the room with a smile on her face, without saying another word.
