"Good morning." Bethany smiled as she met me at the school doors, "You look a bit rough today. Is everything alright?"I shrugged, "Couldn't sleep."
Walking into the school, she kept the conversation light and even avoided areas where Silas and Cassidy would be. Walking with Bethany almost felt like I was back home at my old school with my old friends. And for a few seconds at a time I could convince myself that this was better than that, but the feeling never lasted too long.
"Bethany, wait up." A female voice yelled from behind us, "Bethany, wait."
As Bethany stopped she grabbed my arm and halted me too. As we waited in the middle of the hallway tons of people gave us dirty looks and bumped into us as they passed by. As the other girl finally caught up with us, she was just as pretty as Bethany and it made me feel out of place.
"Hey, Trinity." Bethany smiled at her friend, "This is Isabella."
The girl, Trinity, politely smiled and waved. Waving back, I looked down at my feet as they began speaking. Ignoring whatever they were saying, my attention focused on my shoes as horrible intrusive thoughts began pounding into my head. What if I didn't match and everyone was secretly judging me? What if they were talking about me in some secret code that only they knew?
"I think I should get to class." I quickly spoke up.
"Don't you need to go to your locker first?" Bethany asked, stopping her conversation, "We can walk with you to your locker and then head to class together."
Before I could answer my eyes drifted up to see Silas walking towards, "Yeah that would be really nice actually. Do you think we could go though because you-know-who is walking this way right now?"
"You know who?" Trinity sounded confused.
Bethany grabbed our hands and began leading us down the hallway towards my locker, "Silas Waverly. He offered to show our new friend around the school on her very first day."
A look of pure shock crossed her face, "He walked around with you on your first day and you're still alive right now? I can't believe Cassidy hasn't killed you yet."
"We've been desperately avoiding that at all costs." Bethany explained, "That's why we quickly needed to leave so that he wouldn't walk up to us. We don't need him talking to her or either of us. We don't need that type of trouble."
"I never wanted to start any trouble." I whispered as I began dialing in my locker combination, "Avoiding him is the best thing."
As I began putting things into my locker their conversation started up like nothing happened. Placing my bookbag on the hook, I grabbed out my notebook and textbook before closing the locker again. Going to their lockers they grabbed their things and we headed off to class before the first bell even rang. Hiding myself in the corner of the classroom my stomach twisted with worry. Ever since my first day the worry pit grew bigger inside of my stomach.
"Avoiding me?" The familiar accented voice questioned.
Without looking up I shook my head, "Not avoiding just don't necessarily want to be walked to class every day."
There wasn't a response, just the sound of a chair scraping against the floor. Glancing over my shoulder he had pulled the desk right up next to mine. A huge grin plastered across his face. Shaking my head I hated that he was so happy with everything that he was doing.
"Can you please just leave me alone?" I politely asked him, "I don't really want the attention that talking to you brings. I appreciate you for showing me around on my first day but that day has come and gone."
