Adrianna's POV
"You're coming home!" my mother cried, her voice airy with delight.
I was lying in my small bed on my belly, actually finding its creaky mattress to be quite comforting for once. But after the night I had yesterday, I couldn't blame myself. I was still utterly exhausted from nearly bleeding to death.
My ears immediately perked up at my mother's statement. This was the first time we had talked since our fight, and although she hadn't apologized for sending me out here, the words that had just slipped through her lips were enough to make her completely forgiven in my book. I was going home!
"Are you serious, mother?" I asked with doubt, wanting to make sure my ears weren't just playing tricks on me.
"Yes, dear."
"This isn't some sort of sick joke?"
"No, dear."
"Do you swear on Father's grave?"
"Adrianna," My mother's voice took on the light, disapproving tone she usually used to scold me. "You know very well that I do not find it appropriate to swear. It is extremely un-ladylike-"
"Ahh!" I squealed, rolling around in my bed and nearly falling off its edge. I forgot how small this stupid thing was. "When am I leaving?"
"Today," she replied, and I could hear a smile in her voice.
My grin widened. Finally, I could go home to my hot vampire guy friends, endless supplies of blood thanks to our compelled slaves, Madge, and the best part-no heavy weight of responsibly on my shoulders!
The only dark smudge on this perfectly pure-white painting was the fact that I would be within close proximity of King Alexandru once again, meaning I would have to deal with his snide remarks and the sickening side of him that he chose to only let me see since he knew I couldn't tell anyone or else.
I was not ready to deal with the entire kingdom finding out about my love affair with a human.
Whatever, I thought. I'd deal with him when I had to. I was still feeling high off the fact that I was actually going home to my extravagant castle and vast bedroom and cute vampire boys and-
"Adrianna? Are you still there?" My mother's voice sliced through my happy tirade of thoughts.
"Yes."
"I said, wouldn't you want to know why you are being brought back home?"
Actually, that particular question had not even crossed my mind. I mean, who cares? I was going home to a fluffy pillow and that was all that mattered.
"Not really. But tell me anyway," I replied, getting up from the creaky bed and making my way to the mirror that sat on the wooden dresser. I was pleased to see a smooth, clean, flawless reflection staring back at me with not a single blonde strand of hair out of place. The moment I had gotten in the car with Joanna and Rufus last night, I was handed some bags of blood, to which I gratefully accepted without a second thought. It didn't taste like heaven but it managed to work its magic. My wrapped-up wounds were healed within minutes thanks to that much-needed feeding session.
"Rufus called last night and told me about your Soul Eater attack," she said in concern. "We decided it would be best to bring you back home and abort the mission. You haven't found any sign of the werewolf and with the appearance of the Soul Eaters last night; we have reason to believe that the Fairview Hills witches have lied about our truce. We all know that only with a magic spell can the Soul Eaters be brought into this dimension."
