Adrianna's POV
So it seems that I had been going to great lengths when it came to Caleb.
Pushing my initial obligations to my Kingdom aside, I made it my primary goal to get every single one of the football players of Mill Creek High to like me. Well, "like" wasn't a strong enough word for what I was aiming for. It was more like "adore" or "love." I had always been one to tackle challenges because I knew that in the end I would always end up winning, and so I was going to make sure this particular task would be met with equal success-no matter what.
The way Caleb looked at me after that little argument... I felt like I needed to change that. I couldn't believe I was letting a human get to me this way but it seriously bothered me so much that Caleb didn't like me. I mean, I was perfect for God's sake. Every single guy liked me; it was just a part of human nature.
So as you can tell, I had really taken this whole situation to heart. I was as serious and determined as ever.
In first period, English Lit, after Caleb walked into class late and got yelled at by the teacher whose name I could care less to remember, he went ahead and sat down in an empty seat far away from mine. This turned out to be a problem, as the kid who sat in front of Caleb's usual seat moved one seat back so that he was beside me, and before I knew it I was surrounded by people I didn't want attention from-including Esme. I only wanted to be lavished by one person and that person currently had his bronze eyes gazing intently at the board, his tanned fingers swiftly taking notes onto a sheet of paper.
So yeah, first period was a total bust.
Second period was art class, and even thought I didn't have Caleb and any of his friends in it I did have that bitchy cheerleader Drina, something I hadn't noticed in the past until she walked in. She kept giving me the stank eye from across the room as we each sat perched up on stools in front of our easels. I almost wanted to stand up and call her out, but instead I decided to keep it cool, choosing to smile sweetly at her instead.
It was "inspiration day": the day of the week where we got to draw whatever we wanted based on whatever we wanted. I ended up painting a beautiful picture of a girl with long brown hair who looked almost exactly like Drina, except this particular girl was fatter and had acne and was standing in the corner of the hall with her varsity jacket on, rips and tears all over it. Her face was marked with scratches, her hair tangled and wild. Around her, people did what they normally did here-chatted at their lockers, walked, copied homework-not even giving a second glance in the girl's direction. This was how Drina would look if I ever got to her. I called it "The Dead Girl".
Everyone thought it was amazing that I could come up with such a "masterpiece" in just half an hour, but then again I was a vampire who had been drawing and painting for as long as I could remember. Hardly anyone in the Kingdom knew of my talent, and the two people who did were both dead- one because of me and the other because of the disgusting actions of werewolves. When my father died I had given up drawing altogether, only to have it rekindled here in this human high school.
It was obvious that Drina knew the painting was of her. I could see her silently fuming in the back as the rest of the class was huddled up around me and my painting. My teacher, Ms. Larson, seemed a bit concerned that I had chosen to draw such an unhappy picture, and she also noted that it looked a lot like Drina. I laughed it off with my typical fake, airy personality and managed to retain my innocence by saying how it was actually a representation of how people tend to feel when they are outcasts-ugly, useless, broken-and how nobody even noticed that the person felt this way, hence the reason why everyone was doing their own thing in the picture. The girl in the painting was dead because nobody knew she was alive.
