With my hoodie on my head and earphones in my ears, I quickly made my way back home as quickly as I could. Well, not home. I don't have a home. Home is a distraction, just like family and I already have a family. I can't have a home too. I have an apartment! There's a difference. I juggled the grocery bags in my hands and entered the code to open the apartment complex's door. All of a sudden I heard a noise on my right. I swiftly looked over and saw nothing, so I put in the last number of the code and opened the door. Suddenly I heard the noise again. Why does it sound like-
"Meow..." Announced a small black cat right next to me, while brushing against my leg. The cat must have been soaking wet in that down pour.
"Hi there. Are your owners here?" I hesitantly asked, as if the cat could answer. To be fair, it did meow back. At least I think it did.
"Meow..."
I looked around again, just to see if I could find some clues as to where the cat came from, but there was nothing. The rain was pouring and there was no one around.
"Okay... You can come in..." I invited the cat, opening the door wider. The black ball of fur immediately ran in inside and I followed. Both of us were just happy to get out of the rain. I took off my hood and smiled softly at the cat.
"Bye Kitty." I started walking up the stairs towards my apartment, thinking that the cat would be off to wherever its owners were.
I was swiftly proven wrong when the cat started following me with each and every stair I climbed, until we got to the fifth floor and I stopped. But even then the little feline wouldn't stop following me and instead it marched right behind me all the way to my apartment door, where it sat down and started meowing at me while I grabbed my key out of the back pocket.
"Look Kitty- I let you in to get you out of the rain, not to come into my apartment-" I explained to it. I then unlocked the door and walked inside. I made sure the cat couldn't get in and the placed my bags down on the counter top.
It didn't take long for the guilt to kick in.
I sighed, rolling my eyes, but walking back to the door nonetheless. I opened it and saw the cat still by the door. It was licking its paws.
"Заходи, сукин сын-" Before I can even finish what I was saying, the cat dashes inside and jumps onto my couch, laying down. I inhale, glaring at it.
(Come in, you son of a bitch cat-)
"Okay. Here are some ground rules" I told the cat, who lazily rased its headand looked back at me. It seemed to be listening, so I continued. "You can
only stay here occasionally. This place is not your home. It isn't even myhome" I couldn't believe that I was explaining this to a cat, but I took solace inthe fact that it seemed to understand what I was saying and come on. Weirderthings have happened before. "I will sometimes feed you. But only because Ilike to cook and I want someone to share the food with. I am not adopting you, ever. And finally, no licking me.""Meow."
"No, the rules are not debatable."
"Meow"
"Fine, I'll pet you every once in a while."
"Meow."
"You are not getting your own bed."
"Meow."
"Fine, I'll get you a bed."
"Meow."
"I already told you! I am not adopting you."
"Meow."
"Maybe...if you're here for more than a year- but that's a big maybe!"
"Meow."
"I'll get you your toys..."
"...I don't even want you as a pet, why would I get another animal!?!"
"Ok, wait a second. Why am I talking to you like you're an actual person!?!" The little shit just goes back to licking itself
"Meow." I can't believe it. I was defeated by a cat...
"Fine. I'll name you."
What's a good name for a cat? Black kitty cats... They're usually considered to be badluck, which I do have to say is ironic, considering my life- So, misfortune...misfortune... misfortune... Liho.
"Your name is Liho. Don't even try to argue. You asked me to name you."
"Meow."
