Helka's POV
I went to my room and stood out on the balcony. After I found out Loki was my father, he had told me this was once his and my mother's room. For years, he would stand out on the balcony looking up at the stars. I had caught him one night, on the eve of my birthday standing out and talking to the sky. It wasn't until I found out he was my father that I figured out he was talking to my mother.
"She's strong," he had said to himself. "I'm trying to take care of her. She came with me on her first battle and proved herself well. She gave me the same look you used to when you wanted your way. You would be proud."
I looked up at the stars to see which ones he might have been talking to, but they were covered by the smoke rising from the wreckage.
A knock echoed through the room and Thor entered, his eyes worn but he did not wear the usual smile he tried to wear when I was around him.
"I need your help," he told me.
"What for?"
"I need to break Loki out of prison, but I need to know his mental state. This plan will not work unless I know his mind."
I hesitated to say anything. Since returning my father from Earth, Thor had kept my father at arms length and my father had done the same. They hadn't spoken and neither had any plans to. "I told him about Frigga."
Thor nodded and adjusted Mjonir to his other hand. "It was best coming from you, I imagine."
"He's not well. It wasn't his fault on Earth and the cell has only made it worse."
"I know." Thor said. "That was not the same Loki, but I need to make sure the brother I know is still in there."
"Get him out and he will be."
Thor patted my arm and left. I didn't hear from him the next morning and when I went to my father's cell, the guards told me he was gone. I rushed to the lower halls in search for him or Thor. I saw them walking towards the enemy ship.
"Father," I called.
He turned his head and broke from Thor's side. He had chains around his hands again.
"What, he doesn't trust you," I asked.
"Apparently he thought I would like the joke."
"Please be careful. Stay where Heimdall can see you."
My father nodded and leaned over to gesture a hug. "Distract Odin as much as you can," he whispered.
I nodded and watched them get on the ship. Enemy soldiers headed my way, but I summoned a piece of string. Tying it around a column, I stood my ground and watched them run into in, their legs falling out from under them. The more guards that followed, the higher the pile. I ran to find Odin, but Asgardian guards were already talking to him.
"Where is Loki," he rumbled.
"You forbade me to see him, how should I know the answer?"
"My king!" One of the guards approached the throne, stepping around me to talk to Odin. "They have escaped. The mortal is gone too"
"I take it you would not tell me where they were going if you knew," Odin asked, turning his gaze on me.
"Would you?"
Odin fell back into his throne and sent the guards away.
"It wasn't him on Midgard," I told Odin. His eyes shifted to me, and I continued. "He may be the god of mischief, but a mass murder was never in his nature."
