Remi sat in the waiting room to the Headmaster's office, fists clenched in her lap.

Unfortunately, Blyke was still on suspension, so he couldn't be there for this. He did only have a week left though – it could have been worst.

The door swung open and Vaughn stood open. "Come in, Remi."

She nodded and stepped into the office, taking the chair opposite where Vaughn now sat.

"Um... So do you accept the application for a club trip for the Safe House?" she asked.

She bit her lip. This wouldn't be happening if he actually liked the idea, or would agree to it.

"There is no reason for you to be nervous, Remi," he replied. He clasped his hands together, elbows on the desk, and placed his chin on top. "You aren't in trouble – there is no reason to think you are in trouble. But yes, I won't – can't – give you permission for the school trip yet.

"The school is in a difficult period and due to some of the actions of some of the high tier students attending the school, the school is under a spotlight. It would be better to not bring your club to their attention yet."

She nodded and took a gulp. Does he know? Does he know about more than Blyke's solo act?

"It would be better to apply again next year and maybe you could organise an outing in Wellston. Something within walking distance and something you won't need the school's permission for."

"Yes." She fiddled with her fingers beneath the desk. "But there is still the question on money. Not all the Safe House members would have big enough allowances to put it towards a trip."

"Well, you could choose something that doesn't cost anything. Like the beach."

"There's no beach in Wellston."

"But the seaside is only a few towns over. Many of the students have already have bus passes to go to the centre of town, so it shouldn't be difficult."

She nodded. "Yes, sir."

"I'm sorry this is a disappointment to you, but I have to express that you make sure you stay under the authorities radar."

"Yes, I get that. I don't know what I could get their attention on now."

Has something happened?

"Don't break curfew. That should be fairly simple. Spread the word out to your friends: Seraphina, Blyke, Isen. Anyone else at risk. You don't want to mess with them."

"Yes, sir. I don't plan on breaking school curfew any time soon."

He definitely knows.

"Well." He dropped his hands into his laps. "There is nothing else I have to say right now. I'll contact you and anyone else involved if anything happens. You can go back to what you need to do."

She followed his prompt to stand to her feet and walked out the office back to the Safe House.

John took the seat next to Seraphina and leant up against the fence of the roof.

"Do you attend classes anymore?" he asked.

"No," she replied. She clicked off the phone and slipped it into her blazer pocket. "What's the point? I've already learnt it all years ago. It's just another added stress."

He nodded. "But what about me?"

She reached over and ruffled his hair. "You can always take up my offer."
